Description

Community Liaison Manager, Laos

The total renumeration package for this position is £38,828 per annum / approximately $52,601 USD including salary and all allowances.

About MAG:

MAG (Mines Advisory Group) is an international humanitarian organisation based in Manchester, UK, and working in 32 countries. We remove landmines and unexploded ordnance to release safe and productive land for communities, and work to reduce the threat of armed violence by supporting governments to safely manage weapons and ammunition. In 1997, MAG was a co-recipient of the Nobel Peace Prize for our work campaigning for the Anti-Personnel Mine Ban Convention.

About the role:

In this role, you will play a vital part in supporting communities living with the daily realities of explosive ordnance. Working closely with the Senior Management Team, you will ensure that community participation is central to the planning and delivery of MAG’s mine action activities. As Community Liaison Manager (CLM), you will lead the design and implementation of Community Liaison activities that reflects local needs, meets donor requirements and aligns with national and international mine action standards. You will oversee all CL activities—including explosive ordnance risk education, non-technical survey, impact assessment and community engagement—ensuring they are carried out safely and effectively to support informed decision making throughout survey and clearance. You will strengthen how we listen to communities and use their feedback to adapt and improve our work, while building strong relationships with national authorities and other partners. Managing, training and developing CL teams, you will contribute to the long-term strategic direction of CL in Laos as well as coordinate closely with Information Management, Grants and Communication, and MEAL teams and functions. This role enables you to shape high-quality humanitarian practice while supporting safer futures for people living with the consequences of conflict.

About the Laos programme:

Laos has the unenviable title of being the most bombed country in the world per capita. For nearly a decade, Laos was subjected to heavy US bombing as part of the wider war in Indochina. Working across Xieng Khouang and Khammouane provinces since 1994, MAG has directly helped more than 1,145,000 people to live safer lives, free from danger and fear. Our teams have cleared more than 130 square kilometres of land in Laos, removing and destroying more than 340,000 bombs. In addition, MAG has delivered more than 4,500 risk education sessions to around 153,000 people, helping them to stay safe until land is cleared.
