About the job

Based at Corbett Hospital Community Diagnostic Centre (CDC you will be responsible for the safe delivery of a CT and MRI scanning service representing the Charity in accordance with strategic objectives and contractual requirements.

You will engage with all stakeholders to ensure an integrated clinical service is maintained regarding workforce, clinical governance, health and safety, IRMER compliance and risk management.

There is a clinical lead radiographer commitment with this post undertaking both CT and MRI scanning sessions at the CDC and an administrative role supporting the Health and safety, CQC, QSI and ISO accreditations. (Approx 75% clinical to 25% administrative split)

This role is considered full time based on 37.5 hours per week and worked across four days, between Mon-Fri to ensure the Lead Radiographer is available during the week. Flexible working opportunities are available at Cobalt and part time contracts may be considered for exceptional candidates.

Cobalt Health works in partnership with the Dudley Group NHS Foundation Trust. From January 2025 brand new purpose-built high quality relocatable units, housing CT and MRI and a reception, will be installed adjacent to the Corbett Hospital CDC in the fantastic location of Stourbridge in the heart of the West Midlands.

Cobalt supports a wide range of training and education programmes and we aim to develop an Imaging Academy at the CDC in collaboration with the Trust. We also aspire to develop and introduce a comprehensive and structured education and development package for radiographers who want to specialise in cross sectional radiography, and host radiography students and apprentices from several Universities in the West Midlands.

We are offering an experienced radiographer the opportunity to lead and deliver high quality and safe CT and MRI services on behalf of the Charity working closely with the Trust at the Corbett CDC, which is a key service for the Charity. You will have an excellent knowledge of clinical services and governance, including health and safety. There will be a strong desire to support the development of staff and students, particularly cross-sectional staff education programmes with the objective to implement an integrated and effective workforce.

Key areas of responsibility

• At all times to maintain a positive partnership with NHS Trust, and other stakeholders on behalf of Cobalt and ensure continuity of the CT and MRI services integrating Charity values.
• Lead the quality standards including QSI (Quality Standard for Imaging) and ISO accreditations at the Imaging Centre.
• Assist the Director of Clinical Operations in carrying out their legal duties as registered CQC (Care Quality Commission) Manager for the unit and support the service during external visits by Trust or industry stakeholders including CQC and QSI inspectors.
• Radiation protections supervisor (RPS) in their area of work, and support/provide guidance to junior staff members. (Separate JD)
• Responsible for keeping open communication pathways with line managers regarding the service, whoever appropriate to modality.
• Ensure the Centre is operated to the highest level of clinical and operational governance. 
• To develop and introduce policy, procedures and processes collaboratively with line managers and stakeholders within the Trust relevant to the imaging centre ensuring continuous improvement and patient experience.
• Liaise with multidisciplinary teams in area of work and respond to the clinical requests from consultant radiologists in accordance with agreed protocols.
• Develop and implement quality control programmes in liaison with medical physics department and perform daily quality control system checks, maintain records.
• Maintain documented records as necessary, ensuring records are accessible for inspection by external accreditation bodies including CQC, QSI and ISO.
• Responsible for all staff induction training at the location, IRMER and MRI safety
awareness training, cannulation and administration of contrast agents, maintenance of training records and successful completion of competency frameworks for all Cobalt/non-Cobalt staff working at the Imaging Centre.
• Support Cobalt education and training programmes, from the Trust and surrounding Universities in liaison with the training facilitation team to ensure a positive student experience.
• Participate in the on-call rota for breakdowns and staffing at this location.

Skills and experience required

• HCPC registration
• DCR or BSc in Radiography
• Post Graduate qualification in CT, MRI or PET/CT or equivalent is desirable.
• Demonstrable experience in CT and/or MRI covering all body areas, techniques and contrast media management at a senior level.
• An in-depth knowledge of theoretical and clinical CT and/or MRI is essential. 
• Experience of delivering clinical diagnostic services including the development and implementation of processes and pathways to improve patient and staff experience.
• Experience managing clinical teams in a supervisory role is advantageous.
• High level of professionalism and technical standard of work compliant with relevant Codes of Practice.
