Support communities to lead healthier, more connected lives.

The Abbey Centre is looking for a Community Champions Project Coordinator to play a vital role in delivering our Community Champions programme across Churchill Gardens, Tachbrook, and Lillington & Longmore Estates.

This is an exciting opportunity to work at the heart of a community-led public health approach, supporting local residents to become trusted voices and connectors within their neighbourhoods.

We are a vibrant community charity based in south Westminster, working alongside local people to tackle inequality, reduce isolation and create opportunity. Through our Community Champions programme, we empower residents to share vital health information, shape services, and strengthen community wellbeing.

The Role

As our Community Champions Project Coordinator, you will play a key role in supporting, coordinating and growing a network of Community and Maternity Champions.

This is a hands-on, people-focused role where no two days are the same. You’ll be working directly with residents, volunteers and partners to ensure the programme is responsive, impactful and rooted in local need.

You will:

  • Support the recruitment, onboarding and retention of Community and Maternity Champions
  • Build strong relationships with local residents through outreach and engagement
  • Support the delivery of events, workshops and public health campaigns
  • Enable Champions to connect residents with relevant local services
  • Organise and deliver your own community engagement activities

You’ll be central to ensuring community voices are heard and that local insight informs how services are shaped and delivered.

What We’re Looking For

We’re looking for someone who is passionate about community engagement and believes in the power of grassroots approaches to improving health and wellbeing.

You’ll be confident working both independently and collaboratively, and comfortable building relationships with people from a wide range of backgrounds.

You will bring:

  • Experience of community engagement and outreach
  • Experience working with volunteers
  • Experience supporting vulnerable adults
  • Understanding of diverse inner-city communities and the challenges they face
  • Knowledge of health and social care issues

A strong connection to the local area (particularly Pimlico) is essential.

We value enthusiasm, empathy and lived understanding as much as formal experience. If you’re motivated to support communities and help people thrive, we would love to hear from you.

Staff Benefits

  • Subsidised lunch
  • Interest-free season ticket loan / bicycle loan scheme
  • 23 days annual leave (plus public & statutory holidays) and 3 days off between Christmas and New Year
  • Employer pension contributions (6% when matched by 3% personal contributions)
