JOB DESCRIPTION Job Title: Communications Officer Hours of work: 28 hours per week Location: Millbrook, Southampton Responsible to: Chief Executive Officer Purpose of role This is a key communications role at Southampton City Mission (SCM). You will work closely with colleagues across the charity to deliver external communications including media, digital content and web oversight, ensuring that all messaging aligns with our mission to ‘equip the church to love and serve the city’. The role is central to deliver a strong message that mobilises individuals, organisations and churches throughout the city of Southampton. Communications Strategy and Content Creation • Ensure SCM’s Christian ethos and values strongly underpins its communications, while planning and supporting operational delivery Work with the senior staff team to introduce a new CRM system into the charity • and develop differentiated audience/donor/mailing lists • Lead on the creation of content for SCM’s social media and website Support our Project Managers with designing and editing images, films and other • assets to promote Southampton City Mission using tools such as Canva and Adobe Suite generating new ideas and innovative strategies • Develop systems to capture and record stories from across the projects. Lead on content production and delivery for a range of factsheets, newsletters • and bulletins ensuring visibility of SCM’s daily work Track and regularly review SCM’s public communications and linked outcomes, • using insights to learn and improve. • Develop compelling storytelling pieces that showcase SCM’s impact. Ensure internal communication channels between staff, volunteers and partners • are working effectively, adapting methods and procedures when necessary. • • • • Develop SCM’s social media presence across multiple platforms. Introduce a content calendar for regular updates and engagement. Monitor trends and adjust strategies to maximise digital impact. Write and distribute press releases and liaise with local media.
