Communications Officer
We are looking to hire a Communications Officer for a 9 month Fixed-Term Maternity Cover contract to help share our work, engage our audiences, and strengthen our voice!

In this role, you will report to our Communications Manager, Diane Vandesmet (Also based in our Brussels office) and will work very closely with other members of the communications team based in London and elsewhere in Europe.

In this role, you will report to our Communications Manager, Diane Vandesmet (Also based in our Brussels office) and will work very closely with other members of the communications team based in London and elsewhere in Europe.
Key Responsibilities
- Work closely with Digital Communications colleagues to enhance the impact of our legal and advocacy work in Brussels and other priority countries, through the collaborative creation of content and key messages, with oversight from the Communications manager.
- Work with colleagues in Programmes, Public Affairs and the Head of Brussels to ensure our communications activities contribute to our advocacy objectives.
- Implement and monitor communications activities (including testing new approaches) to support agreed objectives for our priority programmatic work, working with colleagues on global communications aims and providing Brussels audience expertise. Escalate reputationally or legally sensitive issues and proposed reactive media activity to the Communications Manager for sign-off.
- Develop and maintain relationships to support agreed communications priorities, including with journalists, partner organisations and other stakeholders. Ensure these relationships are managed appropriately and documented.
- Participate in relevant national and international coalitions, for example when coordinating communications initiatives with NGOs or other stakeholders, as required, bringing our expertise to the table and adding value to joint communications.

Skills, Knowledge & Expertise
- Experience of implementing high-profile, fast-paced communications work.
- Experience of working with national and international media to land stories and organisational messages that further agreed strategic aims.
- Experience of briefing colleagues and preparing them for media interviews
- Knowledge of Brussels and national media outlets, with contacts in key publications
- An interest in environmental issues such as climate change, and their social ramifications and an awareness of the climate campaigning landscape at both grassroots and NGO level
- Fluent (CEFR level C2) in English and another European language
