Job Description Communications Assistant Reports to: Head of Communications Salary: £28K pro rata Part time: 0.4 FTE / 2 days per week Fixed Term: 1 Year Our Vision, Mission and Values To provide inspiration and opportunity for artists and audiences in a public space for culture right in the centre of Edinburgh – free and open seven days a week. Staff structure The Fruitmarket staff is a team of around 52, including office staff, café staff, and front of house staff. This post The Communications Assistant is line-managed by the Head of Communications and is part of the Communications and Design Team, overseen by the Deputy Director. This role supports the delivery of Fruitmarket’s Communications Assistant 2026 marketing and communications plan, creating content across all digital channels to promote our world-class exhibitions, publications, performances, events and engagement activities. Both days will be based in the office. Skills and qualifications • Proven ability to write engaging, high-quality copy for online and offline audiences • At least two years’ experience working in a marketing role, ideally within a cultural or arts organisation • Understanding of marketing and communications best practice, including GDPR • Experience supporting successful project planning and delivery • Excellent written and verbal communication skills • Experience working with graphic design and photo editing tools, particularly Adobe Creative Suite • Experience using content management systems, social media management tools, and email marketing platforms • Confidence with IT and an ability to learn new systems quickly • A good understanding of the digital landscape • Ability to collate, interpret, and present analytics and data clearly and accurately • Highly organised, with the ability to manage competing deadlines and use initiative • Motivated, responsive, and collaborative, with a strong commitment to team working • Enthusiastic about Fruitmarket’s work, with a genuine interest in the arts Key result areas and activities Working across digital platforms, website, social media, email and CMS • Liaise with staff across all departments to ensure accurate, timely and effective public communications • Plan, create and publish content across Fruitmarket’s social media channels to increase engagement and followers • Write and adapt copy for social media, website and email communications Communications Assistant 2026 • Update and maintain the website as directed ensuring it functions well • Manage the email database on Ecosend and create engaging email campaigns • Update the Bloomberg Connects CMS • Create and work with our ticketing system (Ticket Tailor); monitor sales and communicate with attendees and organisers where necessary. • Monitor and evaluate strong digital work from outside the sector, identifying relevant examples and making recommendations. Photography and design • Take and edit photographs for digital and print use • Film and edit video content for social media • Support the design team with editing, design tasks and reel creation • Select, organise and edit images from external photographers to ensure correct formatting and clear communication. Hours of work A total of 16 hours a week including one hour per day for lunch. Evening work may be required. Except as detailed below, when evening and weekend work is required, an equivalent amount of time may be taken off on, as agreed in advance with the Director or Line Manager. Hours worked overtime will be allocated as a credit to be taken as time-off-in-lieu (TOIL). TOIL hours should be taken within four weeks of being worked or be forfeited. Gallery staff are expected to attend all exhibition previews and, where necessary, board meetings. This will not count as overtime.
