Join Our Team as a Communications Assistant

Are you a current University of Glasgow student with an interest in social media, content creation and student communications? We’re looking for a creative, organised and enthusiastic student to join Glasgow University Students’ Representative Council (SRC) as a Communications Assistant.

This is a great opportunity to gain hands-on experience in a busy student-facing communications team, supporting campaigns, events, services and opportunities that reach students across the University.

  • Pay: £13.56 per hour to £14.34 per hour, depending on experience
  • Location: McIntyre Building, University Avenue, Glasgow G12 8QQ (hybrid working available)
  • Hours: Part-time, normally 15 to 20 hours per week, with a flexible working pattern to be agreed
  • Contract: Fixed term to 31 March 2027

About the Role

As Communications Assistant, you’ll work closely with the Head of Communications & Marketing to help create engaging student-focused content across the SRC’s digital and print channels.

You’ll support social media, website updates, email communications, event promotion, photography, video, graphics and campaign materials. The role would suit a student who already has some relevant experience, whether through student media, societies, volunteering, freelance work, part-time work, personal projects or course-related experience.

Training and support will be provided, so you do not need to be an expert in everything.

Depending on the strength and mix of applications received, we may appoint one person to the full role or split the hours across two part-time posts.

Key Responsibilities

  • Create and schedule engaging content for social media, the SRC website, emails and other digital channels.
  • Support the promotion of SRC events, campaigns, services and opportunities.
  • Help create graphics, reels, short-form video and other visual content.
  • Support the creation of printed promotional materials, such as posters, flyers and signage.
  • Help keep website pages and online listings up to date.
  • Assist with email newsletters and other student communications.
  • Monitor basic social media and campaign performance, including reach and engagement.
  • Work with SRC teams, student officers, volunteers, clubs and societies to gather information and promote opportunities.
  • Attend selected SRC events to capture content, support promotion or help with delivery where needed.

Requirements

We’re looking for someone who has:

  • Strong written communication skills and good attention to detail.
  • Experience creating content for social media, such as Instagram, TikTok or similar platforms.
  • An understanding of what makes content engaging for students.
  • Good organisational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks.
  • The ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • A proactive, reliable and flexible approach.
  • Confidence using Microsoft Office, such as Word, Outlook and Excel.

It would also be useful, but not essential, if you have experience or interest in photography, videography, graphic design, short-form video editing, student media, clubs and societies, volunteering, events or campaigning.

Eligibility

You must be a current University of Glasgow student.

You must have good availability between mid-August and mid-September, including Welcome Week, which takes place from 11 to 18 September. This is the busiest time of year for the SRC and a key part of the role.

Hours are flexible around your studies, but some evening and weekend work is expected, particularly around major SRC events.

Application Process

To apply, please email your completed application form, detailing your experience and why you’re interested, to recruitment@src.gla.ac.uk.

Applicants should use the application form to show how they meet the essential and, where relevant, desirable criteria.

We do not accept CVs.
