Tullie is a large, dynamic and forward-facing cultural organisation situated in the heart of Carlisle. It attracts around 200,000 visitors per year and is undergoing a major transformation. We are looking for a Commis Chef with a real passion for food, quality and service with a can-do attitude who will help us achieve our ambition to become the ‘heartbeat of Carlisle’.

Tullie has just completed and opened Phase 2 of its Futureplan (Project Tullie), unveiling a brand-new welcome space, ground floor gallery, shop and studio space as well as a newly refurbished 80+ cover café. This presents a unique opportunity for you to contribute to developing the new offer within Carlisle’s leading visitor attraction.

Café Tullie reopened in February 2025; after carrying out upgrade works in the café space as well as taking the catering operation in-house. This is a fantastic opportunity to join the Tullie team and play your part in offering a consistently excellent food offer to help attract new audiences and achieve our organisation visions. This is a hugely exciting time for Tullie, and we want a Commis Chef to come in with a passion for outstanding customer service, food offer and standards.

The Commis Chef will deliver kitchen food and drink production to ensure consistently excellent food quality and safe systems and processes in the delivery of the food and drink offer at Tullie.

The postholder will have kitchen experience, craft skills and experience of working within a busy commercial catering environment.

Working hours – 24 hours per week; 5 days over 7 days. The post holder will be expected to work flexibly within the opening hours of the operation which includes weekend and evening work.

Purpose of the Role

  • Supporting kitchen food production to ensure consistently excellent food quality and safe systems and processes in the delivery of the food and drink offer at Tullie.
  • The postholder will have kitchen experience in a similar operation and the ambition to develop craft skills in a busy kitchen environment
