We are looking for  a Clerk of Works to join the National Theatre's Capital Projects team on a Part Time Contract.  

With a wide portfolio of projects which vary in size, type and value this role will support the Senior M and E Project Engineer and the Project Engineering Team within Estates Capital Projects.

The current, growing list of projects range in value from £50K - £5m. The role is to ensure these projects are delivered to a high quality and meeting or exceeding relevant standards and specifications. The role of Clerk of Works requires close collaboration with the Departments M and E Project Engineers, the Estates Capital Projects team, wider Estates team, Facilities, all internal stakeholders, contractors and consultants alike.

As the NT is a live building, project delivery must ensure minimal if any impact on day-to-day operations, rehearsals and performances.

The role will ensure that our projects meet the design criteria and specification set out as part of the design process, ensuring that work is carried out in compliance with relevant standards and specifications and completes in a timely manner to a high standard.

The successful candidates will have the following:  

  • Demonstrable relevant experience as a Clerk of Works within building infrastructure and/or a construction projects environment with knowledge and experience of commonplace electrical and mechanical engineering systems and best practices, with the ability to interpret and understand technical drawings, layouts and schematics

  • A recognised engineering qualification such as an HNC or equivalent, or a recognised apprenticeship or recognised electrical/mechanical qualifications

  • A highly self-motivated individual who can equally work on their own and as part of a team with an ability to build strong relationships with colleagues, internal NT stakeholders, external consultants, and contractors

  • An up to date understanding of the relevant standards within the construction and or building infrastructure environment such as UK Building Regulations, CDM 2015, BS 7671: 18, HSAW Act 1974 inc. EWAR 1989, COSHH etc

  • Strong multi-skilled technical ability including experience in faulty finding and problem solving, finding practical engineered solutions
