WWT Washington Wetland Centre is a customer focussed visitor attraction in Tyne and Wear.

We are looking to recruit a cleaner who can support our positive and forward-thinking facilities team in achieving the highest standards in cleanliness and presentation.

This role shares responsibility for the routine cleaning of the visitor centre and some external features as well as maintaining the site to the highest visitor standards.

This is an annualised hours contract based on an average of 12 hours per week. Salary will be paid in equal monthly amounts. Hours may vary through the seasons. This position will require work at weekends and some bank holidays.

This role will suit someone who

  • is passionate about high standards of cleanliness and presentation.
  • has a great eye for detail and be committed to learning and following all the measures needed to keep you, your colleagues and our visitors safe.
  • is friendly, professional and an open, respectful communicator. The ability to work additional scheduled planned hours from time to time to cover colleague's holidays would be an advantage.
  • is educated to GCSE standard with previous experience in cleaning.
  • is happy working alone as well as part of a small team and be keen to be part of the committed and driven team here at the centre.

We’ll provide all training needed for the role (manual handling, fire awareness, COSHH, working at height).

If this sounds like you, we would love to hear from you.

We’re WWT, and we’re on a mission to restore the super-powered ecosystems we call wetlands. There’s never been a more important moment for our work, and we’ve got some phenomenal people on the case.

Whether they’re taking a new visitor under their wing, or conducting ground-breaking research further afield, our team are second to none. And there’s nothing we love more than watching them soar.

Whatever you do here, you’ll be helping to restore wetlands and unlock their power. So, the only question left is, what role will you play?

  • Wake up every day knowing your work is helping to restore wetlands, and our world
  • Be surrounded and inspired by our team of passionate, dedicated people
  • 33 days annual leave (which goes up to 38 days after 5 years of service) – this includes bank holidays and you have flexibility to take those days whenever you want
  • Free entry to all our wetland centres, including your family
  • Free car parking and secure bike storage areas
  • Colleague discount on shopping and memberships
  • Cycle to work scheme
  • Contributory pension scheme
  • Life Assurance of three times your salary, for peace of mind for your loved ones
  • Independent personal, workplace and financial advice from our Employee Assistance Programme
