About us
Chaigeley School is a Non-maintained Special School that caters for young people between the ages of 8 and
16 who experience Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) difficulties. We provide a specialist
environment where all pupils have an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP). Our school ethos is rooted in
the Quaker principle of respect for the individual and valuing every person's contribution. We are an Ofsted-

The Role
We are seeking a reliable and dedicated School Cleaner to help maintain a clean, safe, and hygienic
environment for our students, staff, and visitors. The successful candidate will be responsible for cleaning
classrooms, offices, corridors, toilets, and other areas throughout the school to a high standard. Duties
include sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, and polishing floors, cleaning and sanitizing surfaces, emptying bins,
and replenishing hygiene supplies.

The role also involves using cleaning equipment and chemicals safely, reporting hazards or maintenance
issues, and assisting with deep cleaning during school breaks or after school events. This position plays a vital
role in supporting the health, wellbeing, and learning environment of the entire school community.

The Candidate
The ideal candidate will be reliable, punctual, and trustworthy, with a strong work ethic and a commitment to
maintaining high standards of cleanliness. Previous cleaning experience is preferred but not essential, and the
candidate should have a basic understanding of cleaning techniques, equipment, and health and safety
procedures.

They should be able to work independently as well as part of a team, communicate effectively, and adapt to
different tasks and schedules. Respect for the school environment, discretion, and a professional attitude are
essential. Basic literacy and numeracy skills are required, and the successful candidate should be willing to
undertake relevant training, including health and safety and manual handling. Cleaning or hygiene-related
certifications are desirable but not essential.

Essential Qualifications and Experience:
•  Basic literacy and numeracy skills
•  Previous cleaning or janitorial experience (preferred but not essential)
•  Knowledge of basic cleaning techniques, materials, and equipment
•  Understanding of health and safety procedures, including safe use of cleaning chemicals
•  Awareness of hygiene standards and infection control
•  Willingness to undergo training, including health and safety and manual handling

School Cleaner

Responsible for
Responsible for maintaining a clean, safe, and hygienic environment throughout the school premises.

Main Purpose
The  main  purpose  of  this  role  is  to  ensure  the  school  is  maintained  in  a  clean,  safe,  and  hygienic  condition,
providing a healthy environment for students, staff, and visitors. The School Cleaner plays a key role in supporting
the  daily  operation  of  the  school  by  maintaining  high  standards  of  cleanliness  in  accordance  with  health  and
safety requirements.

Job Profile

Sweep, mop, vacuum, and polish floors as required

Cleaning Duties
•  Clean and sanitize classrooms, offices, corridors, halls, and other learning areas

•  Clean windows, walls, doors, and surfaces to a high standard

Empty bins and disposal of waste appropriately
•  Clean, disinfect, and restock toilets and washrooms
•  Refill soap, paper towels, and toilet paper

•  Operate cleaning equipment such as vacuum cleaners and floor machines.

•  Monitor and report low stock of cleaning supplies

Ensure hygiene areas meet health and safety standards

Teamwork & Communication
•  Work effectively as part of the school cleaning team to ensure all areas are cleaned efficiently and to

a consistent standard

•  Communicate  clearly  and  professionally  with  supervisors,  colleagues,  and  other  school  staff

regarding tasks, schedules, and any issues identified

•  Provide support to team members when required to meet cleaning deadlines or cover absences

Security, Health & Safety

Ensure that you are familiar with all aspects of health and safety including security, fire  safety and
emergency procedures, so that established good practices are adhered to.
Take part in and undertake any emergency fire drill or emergency evacuation.
