CLASSROOM TEACHER IN THE PRE PREP Cargilfield aims to teach the whole child. The role of the Classroom Teacher in the Pre Prep is to fulfil this aim by managing each class in a caring and professional manner. The Teacher in the Pre Prep is responsible to the Deputy Head (Pre-Prep). RESPONSIBILITIES • To teach classes assigned each year in a professional manner, employing a range of methods for effective learning and teaching; • To maintain good order and discipline among pupils and to safeguard their health, safety and welfare; • To put Pre Prep school policy on Learning and Teaching into practice; • To be familiar with all relevant schemes of work; • To plan effective teaching of the curriculum on a long-term and short-term basis; • To mark, assess, record and report to pupils on work undertaken in a meaningful way; • To report to parents on a regular basis as set down by the School, and to liaise with parents as required; • To work with parents in partnership, in a range of ways, as appropriate; • To liaise with Learning Support regarding the particular needs of individual children, for example those with Individual Education Programmes or pupil support plans; • To eat lunch with the children daily; • To liaise with outside agencies as required; • To take part in the School’s staff development programme and Professional Review and Development Programme; • To contribute constructively to the development of the School curriculum and to methodology and policy; • To contribute, as appropriate, to the professional development of colleagues including probationers and students; • To help foster respectful working relationships with pupils and colleagues in all aspects of school life • To participate in the wider life of the School and to contribute each afternoon to either games or clubs (or both); • To attend parent/teacher meetings, staff meetings and school functions as appropriate and to contribute positively to the welfare of Cargilfield School; • The teaching day is from 8.15am to 5.30pm Monday to Friday. All Pre-Prep teachers must offer one evening activity per week in the Upper School to 8pm; • To attend / lead school assemblies; • To ensure that GTCS membership is renewed annually and professional updates undertaken as required; • Any other reasonable request from the Deputy Head (Pre-Prep) or Headmaster.
