Job Purpose

The Teacher is responsible for the education, progress and wellbeing of all learners within their class or teaching group, ensuring that all learners receive a high-quality, personalised education that meets their individual needs.

The Teacher will:

  •   plan and deliver abroad, balanced and differentiated curriculum
  • ensure progress againstEducation, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) outcomes
  • create asafe, structured and engaging learning environment
  •   lead and manageTeaching Assistants effectively
  • promote positive behaviour and emotional regulation through arelational and trauma-informed approach

Key Responsibilities

Teaching and Learning

  • Plan and deliver high-quality lessons that are differentiated to meet the needs of learners with SEND, including SEMH
  • Ensure learning is engaging, purposeful and supports progression over time
  • Set clear learning objectives and success criteria
  • Adapt teaching approaches to meet individual needs
  • Promote high standards of literacy and numeracy across the curriculum
  • Use assessment effectively to inform planning and secure progress

Curriculum and EHCP Delivery

  • Deliver a broad and balanced curriculum appropriate to learners’ needs
  • Plan provision that supports progress towards EHCP outcomes
  • Understand and respond to individual learner profiles, needs and starting points
  • Contribute to EHCP reviews and reporting processes
  • Ensure personalised learning pathways are implemented effectively

Assessment, Progress and Accountability

  • Monitor, assess and record learner progress accurately
  • Use data to inform teaching and identify next steps
  • Provide clear and constructive feedback to learners
  • Ensure learners make measurable progress over time
  • Maintain accurate records using school systems (e.g. Arbor, assessment systems)

Behaviour, Safety and Learning Environment

  • Establish and maintain a safe, calm and purposeful classroom environment
  • Implement the school’s Behaviour Policy consistently
  • Promote positive behaviour, self-regulation and independence
  • Use de-escalation strategies and trauma-informed approaches
  • Respond effectively to incidents of dysregulation

Leadership and Management of Teaching Assistants

  • Lead, direct and deploy Teaching Assistants effectively within the classroom
  • Ensure Teaching Assistants understand their roles and responsibilities
  • Provide clear guidance on supporting learning and behaviour
  • Work collaboratively with Teaching Assistants to maximise learner outcomes
  • Monitor and evaluate the impact of Teaching Assistant support

Pastoral Responsibilities

  • Act as a Key Worker for identified learners where appropriate
  • Support learner wellbeing, engagement and attendance
  • Build strong relationships with learners based on trust and consistency
  • Communicate effectively with parents/carers regarding progress and wellbeing

Safeguarding

  • Promote and safeguard the welfare of all learners
  • Follow all safeguarding and child protection procedures
  • Report concerns immediately to the Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL)
  • Record safeguarding concerns accurately (e.g. CPOMS)
  • Maintain professional vigilance at all times

Team Working and Collaboration

  • Work collaboratively with colleagues, SENCO, DSL and senior leaders
  • Contribute to meetings, reviews and school development
  • Work in partnership with external professionals (e.g. therapists, social care)
  • Share good practice and support colleagues

Professional Responsibilities

  • Demonstrate high standards of professional conduct
  • Maintain accurate records and meet deadlines
  • Engage in professional development and appraisal processes
  • Reflect on and improve teaching practice
  • Contribute positively to the ethos and culture of the school

Administration

  • Complete registers and supervise learners appropriately
  • Maintain accurate records (attendance, behaviour, assessment)
  • Write reports and contribute to reviews
  • Ensure safeguarding records are up to date
