Children’s Nurse

Join our Children’s Services team at Dougie Mac and help provide compassionate, specialist palliative care for children and young people with life-limiting or life-threatening conditions.

As a Registered Children’s Nurse, you’ll play an important role in delivering holistic, family-centred care that supports children, young people and their families both within the hospice and, where appropriate, in the community. You’ll be responsible for assessing, planning and delivering personalised care while working closely with families and the wider multidisciplinary team.

This role requires excellent communication skills, compassion and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a supportive clinical team. You will also contribute to maintaining high standards of care, supporting colleagues and promoting best practice in children’s palliative care.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver holistic, individualised palliative care for children and young people with complex needs
  • Assess and respond to the physical, emotional, social and spiritual needs of children and their families
  • Work collaboratively with the multidisciplinary team to plan and deliver personalised care
  • Support families with compassion and clear communication throughout their care journey
  • Supervise and support care staff, students and volunteers where appropriate
  • Maintain accurate patient records and ensure care is delivered in line with hospice policies and professional standards
  • Participate in reflective practice, clinical supervision and ongoing professional development
  • Contribute to maintaining a safe, supportive and compassionate care environment

About You

We are looking for a compassionate and motivated nurse who is passionate about providing exceptional care for children and their families.

You will:

  • Be a Registered Children’s Nurse (RNC) with a valid NMC registration with 2 years post registration experience
  • Have experience supporting children with complex health needs
  • Be able to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team
  • Demonstrate strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Show empathy, compassion and resilience when supporting children and families
  • Be committed to maintaining high standards of patient-centred care and continuous learning

Salary: £32,000 – £39,000 depending on skills, experience & knowledge

Hours: 22.5 – 37.5 hour contracts available, shifts will be days, nights and weekends.
