What we do

Compton Care provide high quality, accessible care and support. For over 40 years we have been providing specialist palliative and end of life care to patients, and support for their families, helping them to navigate every aspect of living with a life limiting condition.

Our specialist care, whether delivered at our purpose-built facilities or at home is tailored to individual needs. As well as providing high quality clinical care, Compton Care also offers a wide range of enhanced care services including psychological therapies, social care, respite and complementary therapies.

What will you do?

In this meaningful and varied role, you will provide specialist support to children, young people and their families who are navigating illness, bereavement and significant life changes. You’ll collaborate with colleagues across the organisation to develop workshops, activities and events that help young people understand their experiences and feel less alone. The role will include:

  • Providing high‑quality support services to patients and families in line with Compton Care’s Support Services Framework.
  • Delivering support to patients and their families throughout the patient’s illness and into bereavement.
  • Planning and delivering workshops, activity programmes and events for children and young people.
  • Creating and facilitating sessions focused on navigating key milestones such as Father’s/Mother’s Day, Christmas, birthdays and anniversaries, as well as memory‑making and reminiscence workshops.
  • Developing a calendar of social events where children and young people can connect with others experiencing similar challenges, helping to build a safe, supported peer community.
  • Providing one‑to‑one sessions for children and young people who are bereaved or have a loved one with an incurable illness, helping them prepare for loss and cope with grief.
  • Delivering workshops for adults to equip them with the skills and confidence to support bereaved children and young people.
  • Offering education, guidance and information to staff and the public on bereavement, loss, change, and related psychological issues.

What we want you to bring.

You will have significant experience of providing support for children and/or young people where you have facilitated both one to one and group work and provided education and awareness. You will hold training relevant to bereavement to support you in your role. Highly developed communication skills are essential for this role including listening skills, empathy and the ability to talk confidently about death, loss and grief.

You will need to have good organisational and administrative skills, including being able to use MS Office applications to support your work.

You will be able to work collaboratively within a multi-disciplinary team but also be confident in managing your own time and taking personal initiative in your work.

What’s in it for you?
