The Opportunity

We are looking for a caring, dynamic and forward thinking individual to lead our community facing charitable activities from our busy community hub in Thorntree.

Are you a good listener with a knowledge of support and recovery systems? Can you be the touchpoint for people, whatever their situation or experiences, to begin their journey to get back on their feet, to help them navigate their daily challenges and help them to sustain engagement with trusted services that will help them advance their situation?

Do you have experience required to curate the busy session offering in our community room, to maintain an atmosphere of inclusion and positive supportive challenge for all who use of our facilities?

What does the role involve?

As Centre co-ordinator, you will be responsible for the successful day to day running of our busy community centre. Working with trusted partners to design and implement art, education and advice sessions that contribute to growth in people’s lives.

You will be the welcoming face for new and returning members of the community who come to us for a whole range of reasons. You will lead on building relationships with people, understand their needs, and helping them navigate the sometimes-complex support networks locally

You will support a small caseload, supported with clear boundaries, good record keeping and strong safeguarding practice.

Each day will be different. Our aim is to meet each person that comes through our door where they are, understand their needs, and work with them find and develop the tools and support networks they need to succeed on their terms.

About CVL

With rising levels of poverty in the North East, people are struggling not only to thrive but to survive. Many organisations focus on end-to-end services, but we specialise in the crucial, often fragmented, bits in between—the glue that keeps people connected to support systems. From the moment we engage, we’re already planning how to empower, build independence, confidence, resilience, and tools they need to improve their lives

What are we looking for?

Essential

    • Full UK driving licence and confidence driving locally.
    • Comfortable working face-to-face with people experiencing complex needs (including distress, trauma, substance use, poor mental health, homelessness, exploitation risk).
    • Strong admin skills: accurate record keeping, diary management, and confidence with IT systems.
    • Calm under pressure with strong communication and the ability to set respectful boundaries.
    • Willing to undertake checks and training: enhanced DBS, safeguarding training, GDPR, lone working, conflict management.

Desirable

    • Experience in reception, customer service, housing support, community services, or casework.
    • Knowledge of local services, referral routes, and partnership working.
    • First aid training, mental health awareness training, or similar.

Key accountabilities

    • Deliver a safe, welcoming atmosphere in our community centre.
    • Build an efficient system to triage needs and ensure people get started on the correct pathway.
    • Maintain clear and sensible boundaries within our centre and interactions with people.
    • Maintain our session delivery as a vibrant and outcome focused offering.
    • Oversee the kitchen offering and spending.
    • Log and action maintenance issues within the centre, both for CVL and our tenants
