JOB DESCRIPTION – CELTA Teacher Trainer (Fixed-term contract initially from May to August 2026) Candidates are expected to spend time looking at the College website www.stclares.ac.uk which provides information about St Clare’s and the courses we offer Title of Post CELTA Teacher Trainer (accredited Main Course Tutor/Assistant Course Tutor) JOB DESCRIPTION Purpose of Role To contribute to the development and coordination of the College CELTA provision, as well as train and assess on both full-time and part-time online and occasionally in person courses Department St Clare’s, Oxford – Teacher Professional Development Courses Reporting Structure Key Responsibilities Reports directly to Director of Teacher Professional Development Courses • To continuously develop the CELTA course, including adaption of timetables, planning of teacher training tuition and tutorials, and keeping administrative records of the course • To process application forms, interview candidates, and liaise with the Admissions Officer and/or Director of Teacher Professional Development Courses on onboarding the trainees • To deliver each course with energy and enthusiasm, aiming high, and providing a learning process that is both challenging and engaging • To prepare schemes of work and assessment, provide and maintain teaching materials, including handouts, assignments, and booklists • To monitor and keep records of trainee progress and performance, attendance, punctuality, and assessment • To demonstrate a strong interest in the use of AI in English language teaching and learning, to maintain an openness to new ideas and continued professional development, and show confidence and curiosity in experimenting with new educational technologies for both online and in‑person course delivery • To liaise with external organisations and stakeholders where appropriate and necessary • To act as main or assistant course tutor, identify necessary support for trainees and provide support to ensure that trainees achieve their goals • To attend staff meetings as directed by the Director of Teacher Professional Development Courses, and to participate in teacher development workshops as appropriate • Contribute to the development of marketing and publicity materials, to include occasional attendance at promotional events such as talks to potential candidates at school assemblies or similar • To undertake creation of materials and planning for any bespoke or other Teacher Training or Professional Development Courses, as directed by the Director of Teacher Professional Development Courses • To be actively involved in the ‘safeguarding’ and ‘duty of care’ aspects of the International College, as well as take an active role in the supervision, welfare, and discipline of students 1 at all times, including ensuring punctuality, supporting the students whilst maintaining a professional distance, completing risk assessments, monitoring student behaviour, and encouraging integration in and out of the classroom as appropriate • To perform other duties as reasonably required to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for all students including observations and inspections While every effort has been made to describe the main duties and responsibilities of the post, each individual task necessary for the successful performance of the role may not be specifically identified. PERSON SPECIFICATION The successful candidate will have demonstrated the following essential skills and experience Education and qualifications • A Degree (D) • Cambridge DELTA or Trinity Dip TESOL (E) • CELTA Trainer approval & accreditation for 2026 (E) Knowledge, skills, and experience • Wide-ranging and varied experience of teaching speakers of English as a foreign language (E) • Current or recent experience of teaching CELTA or DELTA, including online (E) • Desire to participate in and contribute to CPD (E) • Experience in coordinating/managing/undertaking related administration for CELTA courses (E) Personal skills and attributes • Dynamic, enthusiastic, adaptable, client-focused • Positive attitude, growth mindset, supportive team-player • Proven ability to juggle multiple demands, prioritise and manage competing deadlines, remain calm under pressure, and support candidates effectively • Ability to complete administrative tasks accurately and meet deadlines • Strong organisational skills and ability to use one’s own initiative • Acts with tact and diplomacy, works well with multiple teams • Excellent IT skills, competent user of Teams and Zoom, familiarity with the use of AI for educational purposes and willing to learn more as the technology develops Terms of Employment Fixed-term contract from 4th May to 31st August 2026. The contract may be extended by mutual agreement. TERMS AND CONDITIONS Hours Work will be on an “as required” basis as determined by the schedule of courses organised by the College . Actual working hours are typically between 11am and 7pm and days of work will be agreed with your line manager on a monthly basis. Examples: • On a full-time online or in person 4-week CELTA both Main Course Tutor (MCT) and Assistant Course Tutor (ACT) will be required to work 5 days a week Monday to Friday (between 35-40 hours per week) • On a part-time face-to-face 14-week CELTA both MCT and ACT will be required to work 2 days a week Saturday and Sunday (14 hours per week) • On some courses the ACT may have a reduced role (30%) over 2 weeks (approximately 25 hours per week). In some circumstances, a ‘job-share’ arrangement may be possible in which the Teaching Practice/input hours are shared between three trainers. Work may also be required on public holidays when courses are being run. Salary / Pay £37.66 per hour (£33.60 per hour plus £4.06 per hour holiday pay) Holiday Pay Rolled-up holiday pay is payable equal to 12.07% of the remuneration for work done during the relevant pay period as shown above. Pension A contributory pension is offered through St Clare’s group personal pension scheme, following a 3-month deferment period and subject to employees meeting the statutory enrolment criteria. The employer pays 10% of gross salary and the employee pays 5%. Employee contributions above 5% may be made, but do not attract a matching contribution from the employer. Meal Free lunch is provided in the college dining hall on working days and when students are in residence.
