About the role

The Catering Assistant plays a key supporting role in the day-to-day operation of the Catering Department at Kingswood Senior School. With service of meals and refreshments for up to 900 pupils. The role is hands-on and fast-paced, requiring flexibility, strong teamwork, and a shared commitment to maintaining high standards of food quality, hygiene, and service within a busy school environment. Key responsibilities

People and planning

• Work as part of a strong team to help with the service of meals and refreshments to students and staff.

• Work closely with the chefs and management with regards to pupil and staff allergies.

• Adhering to food safety and hygiene regulations.

Be flexible to work out of hours functions and commercial events.

Provide a friendly, welcoming and efficient service to pupils, staff and visitors, helping to create a positive dining experience.

Quality and Safety

Follow food safety, hygiene, HACCP and COSHH procedures, ensuring all standards are maintained (full training will be provided).

Work as a strong team to help and be responsible for cleaning and setting up in all the catering areas.

• Ensure food safety and hygiene standards are met.

You will be expected to:

To comply with all school policies and procedures including reporting any concerns to the appropriate person in relation to those covering child protection, health, safety, welfare, security, confidentiality and data protection.

Has experience of working in catering, hospitality or a customer-facing environment (desirable but not essential).

Holds a Basic Food Hygiene Certificate (desirable), although full training will be provided.

Child protection

It is your responsibility to help promote and safeguard the welfare of children and young persons for whom you are responsible, or with whom you come into contact, and to adhere to and ensure compliance with the School’s Child Protection Policy Statement at all times. If, in the course of carrying out the duties of the post, you become aware of any actual or potential risks to the safety or welfare of children in the school, you must report any concerns to the School’s Designated Safeguarding Lead. Protecting children from the risk of radicalisation is part of the School’s safeguarding duties (under the Prevent Duty).

Terms and conditions

This is a full-time role, during term time only plus 20 days (38 weeks per year), working 36.25 hours a week: 11.30am to 7.15pm, Monday to Friday, with 30-minutes unpaid for lunch.

The salary for this role is £21,212.32 per annum.
