Catering Assistant 

We are looking for an enthusiastic catering assistant to join our highly motivated, supportive and friendly catering team. This is a wonderful opportunity to join our dedicated team who provide meals to staff, visitors, families and palliative care inpatients at this critical time in their life, when it matters most.

Hours: 28 hours per week (over 7 days Monday – Sunday) 

What is the role? 

You will be responsible for assisting the chefs with the day to day running of the kitchen, including the preparation and delivery of food for patients, their families, staff and visitors within the hospice and associated buildings, ensuring a high standard of cleanliness, hygiene and quality at all times.

Duties will include, but are not limited to:

  • Assisting with the preparation and serving of food.
  • Liaising with in-patients and day care on a daily basis to get their menu choice advising as necessary on special requirements and dietary needs, and nutrition.
  • Responsible for the preparation and cooking of some meals
  • Washing up and ensuring high standards of cleanliness and hygiene

In addition, you will support the senior chefs to deliver the catering requirements for key events which include ‘Light up a Life’/ Garden Fete / AGM / scheme openings / fundraising events.

The successful applicant will be able to provide outstanding catering support to our inpatient unit. The Prospect Hospice is passionate and supportive and you’ll be helping to create a warm and comfortable experience for our patients, their families, visitors and staff. About you: 

  • Successful track record within the catering sector in a similar role.
  • Positive oral communication skills with the ability to communicate effectively with customers, visitors, patients and staff.
  • Displays a can-do attitude and a positive approach to learning in the role.
  • Self-motivated and able to complete assigned tasks with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team, supporting others to deliver their tasks.
  • Food prep experience is desirable but not essential as training can be provided.
