JOB DESCRIPTION Site Team – Caretaker Responsible to: Site Supervisor Main Purpose: To assist in ensuring the school site is in a clean, tidy and presentable condition at all times and that it provides a safe and secure environment for students, staff, parents and visitors. You will be expected to liaise with staff across the school and provide assistance as problems arise. Basic Requirements Supporting the general upkeep of the site and buildings, managing general tasks in liaison with the Operations Manager, keeping appropriate logs, records and reports Employing a proactive attitude to work in and around the school, identifying jobs before they are pointed out by others Taking necessary steps for the security of the site from the start to the end of the School day including opening and locking the site on a daily basis Being responsible for keeping key areas of the site, such as classrooms, corridors, offices and general areas in good order and in a presentable manner Carry out minor maintenance and repairs Respond to enquiries and concerns in a timely manner Uphold a commitment to Health and Safety Comply with systems, policies, procedures and resource constraints Managing resources and energy to reduce carbon footprint and enhance sustainable practices Work to ensure that the site is managed lawfully, ethically and morally Become part of a rota that will cover out of hours emergencies To cover shifts in the event of staff leave or sickness and be available for school events that fall outside of normal working hours As a valued member of the school, you will be expected to undertake personal development and improve one’s own practice through training, observation, evaluation and discussion with colleagues and use this to support others. Health & Safety Assessing risks and taking all reasonable steps to restrict access to potential hazards Collaborating with staff to ensure that all work areas are kept clear of obstruction, particularly those associated with fire escape routes Ensuring that snow and ice are cleared in order to maintain entrance, exit and communication routes to all buildings for pedestrians and essential delivery or emergency vehicles Identifying where improvements can be made to health and safety, environmental impact and quality and recommend actions for change Monitoring and facilitating adequate security of the building and premises at all times Becoming part of the fire marshalling team and assist during site evacuations Using established permit to work and signing in procedures for contractors and other visitors to the School To attend all essential training around safeguarding and child safety provided by the School JOB DESCRIPTION Willingness to attend personal health & safety courses where appropriate Willingness to be a First Aider General Duties Promptly receiving and distributing goods that are delivered to the school Setting up venues for assemblies, dinner times and other events Providing support at school events that fall outside of school hours such as parent/information evenings, open mornings etc. as and when the school requires Using the school software, Mobiles, email and other methods to receive and manage work General maintenance and upkeep of the swimming pool To provide support at the School’s Playing fields (Lammack) and cover staff absences and school events when required Perform weekly fire alarm checks and report findings to operations manager Driving the School minibus when required Undertaking such other duties as the Site Supervisor from time to time may direct Personal Qualities Liaising and communicating effectively with stakeholders in the School (including students, colleagues, line manager, parents and governors) Remain respectful towards your colleagues. This means that you should not shout, swear, insult, gossip or conduct yourself in any manner than is contrary to the schools expectations on behaviour. Manage conflicts, misunderstandings and disagreements Understand that the school has a grievance procedure for airing any concerns that you may have and that should you have any concerns you are required to follow procedure and speak to the appropriate individual. Observe that we are all placed to set an example to those around us Seeking line manager support where necessary and appropriate Reflecting on the effectiveness of professional relationships and identifying where improvements can be made Site Staff Code of conduct and conditions In common with all staff, holidays must be requested by submitting the appropriate leave request to the Site Supervisor, who in the light of the work demands during the time requested and any other holiday requests/approvals already submitted/granted Lateness or absences to reported as soon as possible to your line manager or the bursary lunch break to be staggered amongst site staff to provide coverage Staff to behave in a courteous and respectful manner to fellow staff and visitors to the School School issued mobiles and walkie-talkies to be switched on and staff member to remain contactable Inventry system to be used when arriving to and leaving from work Staff lanyards to be worn at all times in accordance with the school safeguarding policy All school emails require an acknowledgment Telephone calls and verbal conversations to staff and to be held in a respectful tone Any ill feeling or disagreements with other staff members to be dealt with promptly either informally or via the school’s grievance procedure – negative atmospheres are not welcome and should be dealt with before they escalate Maintain confidentiality regarding school/workplace matters
