Located in Glasgow’s Merchant City, the Tron Theatre consists of a 230-seat auditorium, a 75-seat studio/rehearsal space, two 60-seat rehearsal/event spaces, a box office, a Café/Bar and office accommodation for administration and production staff.

The Tron Theatre is both a producing and receiving theatre. We produce circa four Tron Theatre Company shows a year, as well as delivering a busy programme of visiting work including drama, dance, music, and comedy.

As a Café/Bar Assistant, you will be responsible for carrying out the associated day to day tasks to ensure the smooth running of the café/bar and its associated services while providing the best possible audience experience.

Team: Audience Operations The team comprises of 1 Head of Venue Management, 4 Duty Managers, 1 Duty Manager (Depute), 4 Box Office & Reception Assistants, 16 Front of House Assistants and 10 Café/Bar Assistants

Location: The job is based within the Tron Theatre, Glasgow City Centre Note: Remote/hybrid working is not available for this position

Contract Type: Casual Contract

Working Hours: Variable – As and when required Includes daytime, evening and weekend work

Remuneration: £13.45ph A minimum call time of 3.5hrs applies to this position.

Holidays: Not applicable to this role. Holiday pay is accrued based on hours of work.

Pension: Tron Theatre is part of the UK Government auto-enrolment scheme.

Key Skills

ESSENTIAL

• Previous customer service experience

Previous experience of cash and card handling

• Proven ability to provide a high level of customer service and efficiency during periods of intensity

• Proven ability to work with a wide variety of customers

• A friendly, hardworking and flexible approach to customer service and all aspects of bar work

• Presentable, honest, reliable and professional with an approachable manner

• High attention to detail

• Can work evenings and weekends

Ability to work on own initiative and within a team

• High standards of hygiene and the ability to maintain a clean and organised working area

• Aged 18 or over at the time of this recruitment

• Knowledge of General Data Protection Regulations, UK Data Protection Legislation

• Experience of using a range of EPOS systems

DESIRABLE

• Experience of working in a theatre bar setting

• Interest in working in an arts environment

• Previous bar or restaurant experience

• Food Hygiene Certificate – Level 2

• Knowledge of Payment Card Industry Standards (PCI DSS)

• Knowledge of bar-based Health & Safety legislation

Key Responsibilities

Administration & Finance

• To use Square (our EPOS system) to accurately record all sales of catering items

• To maintain cash drawers and floats issued to you during your shift

• To reconcile Bar takings at the end of a shift

• To strictly follow the guidelines set out in the Bar manual

• To maintain and replenish front of house print, including posters and flyers

• Assist in monthly stock checks & reconciliation

Take responsibility for ensuring PCI DSS compliance is always adhered to

Food & Drink

• Prepare and cook simple menu items (e.g. soups, sandwiches, salads, breakfasts, baked goods) and assist with menu development

• Follow recipes, portion guidelines and presentation standards, while maintaining high food quality and minimising waste

• Receive and store deliveries, monitor stock levels and ensure correct rotation of ingredients and bar supplies

• Prepare and serve a variety of hot and cold drinks, including barista coffees, teas, smoothies, and alcoholic beverages in line with licensing laws

• Maintain product knowledge and ensure consistent quality, presentation and cleanliness across all food and drink service areas.

Customers and Access Services

• To serve all customers promptly and efficiently, providing consistent excellent customer service, always remaining friendly, courteous and professional

• Take part in staff briefings and feedback sessions

• Assist in pre-trading checks, including emergency exits and evacuation routes

• Ensure you are delivering on our customer service & visitor experience strategy inc. accessibility

• Adhere to our customer complaints policy

• Assist with the monitoring and maintenance of our access service equipment in line with policies and procedures

Theatre Programme, Events and Hires

To keep up to date with the details of all forthcoming shows and Tron activities, researching where necessary

• To help facilitate catering for special events such as invite nights, fundraising events and private hires

IT & Systems

There are multiple types of systems within the department, all with varying levels of usage by the department. Below is a list, along with what each are used for:

• Square [merchandise POS]

Health & Safety

• To follow Health & Safety guidelines relevant to the post

• Ensure all safety equipment is kept in good working order, reporting back any issues

• Take part in venue wide emergency drills and other key evacuation drills

Other Duties

• To take part in all training sessions and meetings with the team

• Ensuring all venue services operate in an environmentally friendly manner

• To always uphold the reputation of the Tron

• To understand and support the aims and objectives of the Tron Theatre and ensure that these are reflected in service delivery

• Any other duties or projects commensurate with the post as required by the Head of Venue Management or Duty Managers
