Business Operations & Communications Manager Full Time (35 hours/week) Salary: c.£36,000 The role The postholder will work with colleagues across the organisation to deliver the objectives outlined in EVOC’s five-year strategic plan. Reporting to the CDEO, the role of the Business Operations Manager is to work as part of the Senior Management Team (SMT) to provide leadership and management to the organisation. Leads the admin and operations team, with three direct reports. This role combines aspects of business operations, communications and marketing along with membership services, training and administration across the whole organisation. Organisational responsibilities Advocacy • Develop and implement a long-term strategic approach to how EVOC advocates for third sector organisations and the people they serve for positive social change, so that meaningful activity is valued, prioritised, and delivered. • Ensure effective communications across all platforms, whilst showing empathy and skill in maintaining beneficial working relationships amongst colleagues and partners. • Working in close cooperation with other teams and members to ensure campaigns and events are a success for the organisation and the third sector organisations it serves. Capacity Building • Use evidence, based on surveys and research, to identify needs of the sector, then design and deliver training that can support third sector organisations to increase their capacity and skills. • Develop and nurture beneficial partnerships with supporters, funders, other charities and all relevant authorities/organisations. Adopting a creative and innovative approach, remaining open to new ideas and opportunities. • Support third sector organisations by convening some forums, networks, meetings and events to share ideas and innovation and develop best practice. Collaboration • Develop a valued membership offer, facilitate engagement and ensure that effective links with all stakeholders are developed, maintained and regularly reviewed. • Adopt a creative and innovative approach to partnership working that brings people together for collaboration and co-design. • Represent EVOC and the interests of the voluntary sector on a range of external communications supporting joint initiatives and campaigns with a range of groups and organisations. Responsibilities of the role Business Operations • Take responsibility for policy developments to maintain good standards and practices. • Maintain positive relations with contracted service provides including HR, finance and IT. • Work closely with the management team to make evidence-based decisions, manage risks and ensure compliance with health and safety of colleagues, customers and contractors. • Ensure delivery within budgets and in line with performance objectives. Communications • Lead the planning and design of the organisation’s communications at a strategic level. • Deliver internal and external communications across all platforms in ways that promote EVOC’s strategic objectives. Leadership • Leadership in all areas of business operations, guiding, supporting and inspiring the team to support the sector in line with EVOC’s strategic plan. • Lead by example, instilling a culture of professionalism, collaboration and inclusion, supported by coaching, evaluation, training and development. • Ensure that all the charity’s activities are conducted safely and that core policies are understood and followed by colleagues. Strategy • Work with the SMT in implementation and monitoring of the strategic plan. • Identify strategic risks, issues and opportunities for EVOC and, in consultation with the SMT, take responsibility for initiating and leading associated changes. Governance and Compliance • Report to the CEO on a regular basis on activities and finances, align with best practice and taking remedial measures and implementing changes as necessary. • Contributing to the delivery of the strategic plan in a manner that supports and guides the mission as defined by the Board and CEO. • Provide regular updates in-person and via the CEO to the Board to enable the Trustees to execute their responsibilities. Knowledge/skills and experience • Qualified to degree level or equivalent gained through professional experience • Management experience and a track record of success in delivering business services. • Experience of working to deliver strategic communications. • Demonstrable knowledge of relevant policies and statutory requirements. • Experience of financial systems. • Experience of risk management and risk assessments. • Experience of developing and delivering engagement plans and content with diverse audiences and stakeholders in mind, including the public, government, local authorities, funding providers and other voluntary organisations. • Understanding of the equality and diversity, access and inclusion, safeguarding, well-being, health and safety and physical security responsibilities of a manager. • Experience managing social media, copyright, cyber security, information management, web accessibility and data protection in a member/customer facing organisation. • Strong organisational skills including planning, delegating, programme and service development. • Talent in visual design, an eye for the aesthetic, understanding of effective content and the copyright implications of use and re-use. • Report writing and presenting to a range of partners, funders and stakeholders. • Excellent IT skills, including all MS Office applications and relevant media platforms and effective strategies for finding, disseminating and organising information.
