Overview

The Apprenticeship Internal Quality Assurer (IQA) plays a pivotal role in ensuring the integrity, consistency, and compliance of apprenticeship assessment. This position requires an experienced professional with a deep understanding of assessment methodology and sector practice, who can balance impartiality with support and development for assessors. ​

The successful candidate will:  

  • Lead and manage internal quality assurance processes.
  • Coach and support assessors to strengthen delivery standards.
  • Ensure compliance with assessment plans, Ofqual conditions, and TQUK policies.
  • Represent TQUK in standardisation, moderation, and stakeholder engagement forums.

​This is a field-based role requiring flexibility, professionalism, and a willingness to travel.

Key Responsibilities

 Assessor Support & Development  

  • Provide coaching, mentoring, and structured feedback to assessors.
  • Lead standardisation and moderation sessions to ensure consistent practice.
  • Contribute to assessor guidance materials, exemplars, and training resources.

Quality Assurance & Compliance 

  • Sample assessments using a risk-based approach, focusing on high-priority areas.
  • Ensure assessment judgements are fair, reliable, and aligned with assessment plans.
  • Support preparation for and response to EQA visits.
  • Escalate concerns relating to malpractice or non-compliance.

Training & Resource Development  

  • Design and deliver training workshops, webinars, and resources in response to QA findings.
  • Collaborate with Product and Quality Managers to maintain up-to-date, compliant resources.

Stakeholder Engagement  

  • Build effective relationships with assessors and internal teams.
  • Act as an authoritative voice in cases of dispute or discrepancy.
  • Represent the IQA function in cross-departmental projects and meetings.

Professional Standards & Development 

  • Maintain current knowledge of apprenticeship standards, sector updates, and regulatory frameworks.
  • Demonstrate integrity, impartiality, and a commitment to CPD.
  • Share best practice examples and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.

  • Business Administrator Level 3
  • Customer Services Level 2 – 3
  • Management Levels 3 – 5

Key Requirements

Qualifications  

  • Assessor qualification (D32/D33, A1, TAQA, or equivalent).
  • Internal Quality Assurance qualification (D34, V1, or equivalent).
  • Functional Skills Level 2 (English and Maths).
  • Qualifications in Leadership & Management

Experience  

  • Recent experience in Business and Management practice.
  • Minimum 2 years’ competence-based interviewing experience within the last 5 years.
  • Proven assessment and QA experience, including sampling and feedback.

Knowledge & Skills  

  • Understanding of safeguarding, duty of care, EDI, and regulatory frameworks.
  • Excellent written/verbal communication and report-writing skills.
  • Confident in stakeholder engagement and presenting professional judgement.
  • Strong organisational skills, with the ability to work independently and to deadlines.
  • Commitment to ongoing CPD.
