Join our Estates Facilities and Scientific Services team and play a key role in supporting world-leading scientific research. We are seeking a skilled and motivated Building Services Engineer (Mechanical Bias) to help maintain and develop the essential infrastructure that enables groundbreaking science to take place every day.
About the Role
As a Building Services Engineer, you will be responsible for the planned preventative maintenance, fault finding, and repair of a wide range of mechanical building services systems across our campus. Working as part of a dedicated facilities team, you will ensure our research and operational facilities remain safe, reliable, and efficient.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Planned preventative maintenance (PPM) and reactive repairs
- Maintenance of heating, chilled water, and domestic hot water (DHW) systems
- Servicing and repair of HVAC and ventilation systems
- Water testing and monitoring activities
- Drainage and general building services maintenance
- Supporting a variety of multi-skilled maintenance tasks across the estate
- Assisting with system improvements and identifying opportunities for enhanced performance and efficiency
About You
We are looking for a practical and proactive engineer with a strong mechanical background and a commitment to delivering high standards of service.
You will ideally have:
- An NVQ, City & Guilds qualification, or equivalent in Mechanical Engineering
- Relevant post-apprenticeship experience in building services or facilities maintenance
- GAS Safe registration, or a willingness to work towards obtaining it
- Good fault-finding and problem-solving skills
- The ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team
- Strong communication skills and a logical approach to maintenance challenges
The following would be advantageous, although training can be provided:
- Basic electrical fault-finding experience
- Experience with Building Management Systems (BMS)
