Trinity College Works Department is looking for an experienced Builder to join our skilled in‑house team maintaining a large and historic College estate. With many buildings being of National Heritage significance, some dating between the 16th–19th centuries, this role offers the opportunity to develop and apply traditional trades and craft skills while supporting the upkeep of a unique heritage environment.

The Role

You will carry out a wide range of building maintenance and repairs across both modern and heritage properties, including brickwork, plastering, stonework, roofing, cobbles and paving, repairing and cleaning rainwater goods and ensuring sewage systems are working. Tasks include planned and reactive maintenance, condition inspections, working at height, and supporting the delivery of high‑quality, safe and efficient work across the estate. You will also assist with overseeing contractors, preparing material schedules and contributing to a positive, collaborative team culture.

The work includes climbing staircases, accessing awkward areas including confined spaces and walking/cycling between areas across the extensive site.

About You

Essential:

  • NVQ/City & Guilds Level 1–3 (or equivalent) in a construction trade
  • Experience in one or more of bricklaying, lime plastering/rendering, brickwork/stonework, paving, drainage or floor/wall tiling
  • Good understanding of health & safety, including working at height and risk assessments
  • Experience in reactive repairs
  • Full driving licence
  • Able to provide out of hours call-out cover via a rota

Desirable:

  • Experience working in a heritage trade/on heritage properties
  • Roofing repairs and cyclical maintenance
  • Knowledge of building regulations
  • Ability to use Microsoft Office
  • IOSH Managing Safely

The salary for the post is £33,708 per annum plus excellent benefits which include (subject to eligibility) a generous defined contribution pension scheme, free meals in College when working on-site, a subsidised gym and, after satisfactory completion of the probation period, a cycle to work scheme and private health care.
