Circomedia is a leading centre for contemporary circus and physical theatre, based across two sites in Bristol. For more than 30 years we have trained, inspired and supported circus artists, students and communities locally, nationally and internationally.

Job overview
To deliver acro to BTEC Level 3 students, on Circomedia’s Contemporary Circus with Physical Theatre course across year one and year two.
This is a varied and exciting role, sitting within the BTEC Department, reporting to the BTEC Course Manager and Head of Acrobatics. The post holder will be a strong team player, with fantastic communication skills and the initiative to engage learners to participate in acrobatic classes. You will need to have excellent leadership and be competent in classroom management, so that you are able to respond to a varied range of skills, knowledge and abilities.
The role will involve instructing students in the fundamentals and advanced techniques of acrobatics. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in gymnastics, cheerleading, or acrobatics, and a positive, energetic approach to teaching. Your teaching will enable students to unlock new levels of artistic expression through their training, linking tumbling to other circus disciplines, whilst also sharing the theory behind acrobatic/tumbling techniques and inspirational practitioners. In addition, you will work closely with learners to help prepare them for their shows.
Alongside your teaching responsibilities you will carry out marking of student work on their Circus Skills Development module.

• To instruct students in acrobatic techniques, including duo and solo and more advanced skills as appropriate.
• To be comfortable flying beginner and intermediate acrobatics
• To plan and develop lessons and schemes of work that are tailored to individual and group needs.
• To plan and deliver engaging and challenging sessions for a range of students in acrobatics.
• To be able to differentiate work (where appropriate).
• To ensure a safe and inclusive environment.
• To evaluate student progress, provide constructive feedback, and encourage improvement.
• To assist in preparing students for performances, showcases, etc.
• To maintain a clean, organized, and safe training space.
• To communicate effectively with students and other staff members.
• To stay current with best practices in acro instruction and safety.
• To understand and comply with all other relevant academy policies.
• To uphold Circomedia’s ethos in all lessons.
• To attend one Open Day per year (usually on a Saturday) and all inset days
• To act as a personal tutor for a small selection of students on two occasions throughout the year.
• To be an assessor on one of the Modules

Essential
Experience of teaching in Post 16/Further Education sector.
Excellent written and oral communication skills.
• Relevant acrobatic, tumbling, gymnastic, circus, theatre or performing arts experience.
Ability to demonstrate acrobatics techniques.
• Capable of physically assisting students and performing light lifting or spotting.
Competency in using Microsoft Teams and 365.
• Participation in continuous professional development.
Enhanced DBS certificate
Understanding of safeguarding policy and procedures
Desirable
Degree or higher qualification in a performance related subject.
• Knowledge of the national and international performing arts sector (familiarity with Contemporary Circus would be an advantage).
• Teaching Qualification at a minimum of Level 3
Experience teaching BTEC L3, producing schemes of work and lesson plans.

Start date: We are looking for someone to start the job from 31st August 2026– subject to references, DBS and right to work checks.
