The role – Brand & Marketing Assistant
We have an exciting role for an exceptional Brand & Marketing Assistant to join our team. We’re looking for a proactive and ethusiastic individual who will play an important supporting role within the Marketing team, helping us deliver activity that attracts visitors to the zoo, connects audiences with our mission, and best represents the Chester Zoo brand across a wide range of channels.
Reporting to the Brand & Marketing Manager, the Brand & Marketing Assistant will contribute creative and operational support across the department, helping to generate fresh ideas and enhance ways of working. They will work closely with internal teams and external partners to gather information, assets, and content needed to deliver effective campaigns, while also providing day-to-day administrative support to the Brand & Marketing Officer across content creation, coordination, and project delivery. This is a varied role that requires adaptability and a willingness to get involved in a broad mix of activities.
A significant proportion of this role will involve administrative and coordination tasks, ensuring the smooth running of marketing operations, including supporting with supplier communication, file and asset management, processing requests, and managing enquiries. The postholder will be the face of the Marketing Team and the first point of contact for any enquiries, communicating regularly with internal stakeholders and external suppliers to ensure requests are dealt with effectively and in a timely manner.
The postholder will work independently on assigned tasks, using their initiative and creativity to support the development of engaging marketing materials. They will need excellent communication skills and a good copywriting ability to take briefs and produce content suitable for a range of channels.
They will bring strong organisational and problem‑solving skills, managing tasks in a timely and efficient manner to support the smooth delivery of campaigns and projects. An excellent attention to detail and a commitment to maintaining high standards are key to ensuring all outputs reflect the quality of the Chester Zoo brand.
Principal Accountabilities:Support with content and asset delivery / maintenance:
• Ensure that online content is available and accurate, supporting with coordination of activity across all owned channels.
• Managing the Chester Zoo image and film library to ensure that the team have access to high quality assets in line with the Chester Zoo brand guidelines.
• Provide creative support to the Brand & Marketing Officer and Brand & Marketing Manager to deliver the content plan, liaising with other departments within the zoo to gather accurate and timely content.
• Assist with the coordination of film and photography shoots for marketing activity.
• Oversee the schedule of marketing messaging across owned digital channels, such as the website homepage, as well as onsite marketing spaces, including posters, banners, and digital screens.
• Assist the Venues Marketing Manager with the delivery of marketing activity needed to promote The Reserve and venue hire, providing copywriting, website and social media updates, and other support where needed.
• Proofread copy for members communication, emails, website, and other print and digital channels, ensuring content is on brand and using the correct tone of voice.
Assist with campaign coordination and delivery:
• Provide support to the Marketing team for all campaigns – keeping campaign plans up to date, supporting with delivery and/or gathering and creation of assets and copy for paid media, as well as owned and earned channels, being first point of contact for queries, and internally liaising with relevant teams to deliver on site elements.
• Support with the delivering of influencer marketing alongside the AV Production and Talent Manager.
• Assist the Digital Manager with creation of campaign copy for performance marketing (paid social and paid search).
External suppliers:
• Promote tourism and community marketing, and fundraising projects by providing accurate and up to date information, liaising with key partners across the city (i.e. Marketing Cheshire) and internal customers to take briefs and deliver ad-hoc marketing projects.
• Work alongside the Lead Creative Designer, Brand & Marketing Officer and third-party agencies and suppliers to ensure that our print and publications are of the highest quality and delivered on time.
Lead on administration tasks for the team:
• Raise purchase orders and ensure these are provided to suppliers.
• Ensure budget tracking documents are up to date to assist senior management with expenditure control.
• Manage the Marketing email inbox, responding to internal and external queries.
• Share assets and guidance with internal teams and external agencies to support with delivering of projects where the Chester Zoo brand is used.
Our requirements
• A solid understanding of marketing principles, audiences and channels. Ideally, they will have a higher qualification in marketing.
• Good organisational skills and an ability to prioritise your work.
• Good attention to detail.
• Experience of working in a busy marketing department.
• Ability to work independently to deliver against project briefs, knowing when to seek support from other team members when needed.
• A good understanding of the importance of a strong brand application.
• A confident digital native, able to demonstrate understanding of digital marketing principles and practices.
• Experience of working across social media channels.
• Experience of using CMS systems, to update website content.
• Fluent in Microsoft Office, particularly Word, Powerpoint and Excel.
• A confident personality with good verbal presentation skills who will be comfortable representing the zoo at events and meetings.
• An interest in Chester Zoo’s mission relating to conservation and education.
• Copywriting skills and the ability to adapt your writing style for different audiences are desirable.

• Salary - £27,500
