Foundling Museum
Full-time
31st July 2026
Listed today

The Foundling Museum is the only museum to celebrate care-experienced people, and those who care for them. It is the only foundling hospital museum to hold an art collection donated by artists.

We are looking for two new trustees to bring expertise in children’s social care (lived experience and high-profile advocacy) and museum leadership (CEO experience at national level) to our Board.

While the two trustees will have their own remits, they should each possess a willingness to support the Museum with strategic objectives and contribute to Board discussions.

The trustee with expertise in children’s social care will have substantial professional knowledge, alongside lived experience or demonstrable, sustained engagement with care-experienced communities. They will be a credible public voice in the field, evidenced through advisory roles, published work, or contributions to national or regional discourse.

The trustee with CEO-level museum leadership experience will have led a major museum with an accredited collection or equivalent, and have a proven track record of leading successful transformation projects. Candidates should have direct experience in business development, capital fundraising (including statutory funders) and leadership of complex, multi-year projects.

Additionally, both candidates should have a belief in the transformative power of art, and a willingness to act as an advocate for the Foundling Museum. Tact, relationship building skills and knowledge of the arts sector and the challenges it faces are key.

Trustee terms last for 3 years with 4 board meetings per year. Time commitment is expected to be 2-3 days a month.

Please read the full Trustee Appointment Brief below. To apply please email directorsoffice@foundlingmuseum.org.uk with a CV and cover letter. You may also send an Equal Opportunities form if you wish, but this is not compulsory.

The closing date for applications in Friday 31 July at noon.
