NATURAL RESOURCE MANAGEMENT We grow trees to bring land back to life. We support communities to restore soil fertility, protect ecosystems, and manage their land sustainably —building resilience in the face of a changing climate. 4 FOREST GOVERNANCE -term change. We support We grow trees for long communities and local authorities to create fair, locally led rules for how forests are used and protected, ensuring the people who depend on them have a real voice in their future. ENTERPRISE DEVELOPMENT We support We grow trees that grow livelihoods. communities to turn tree products —like shea butter and soap —into strong, sustainable businesses. These incomes provide access to essentials like healthcare, education, and greater financial stability. FOOD SECURITY & NUTRITION We grow trees that nourish families year round. We support farming families with trees that provide reliable, nutritious fruit, nuts, and leaves —ensuring a stable supply of food, even when other crops fail. - 5 WHERE WE WORK We work across the drylands of Africa, in Burkina Faso, Ethiopia, Ghana, Mali, Niger and Senegal, where the climate crisis is shrinking fertile land and putting pressure on the lives of more than 300 million people. In these regions, trees are a lifeline. That’s why we partner with local communities to grow millions of them each year and to protect the land they depend on. Unwavering Integrity We are unwavering in our approach and do things the right way, always acting with honesty, accountability and respect for the communities and people we work with. 8 THE ROLE OF BOARD CHAIR PURPOSE OF THE ROLE We are looking for a dynamic leader to become Tree Aid’s next Chair of the Board of Trustees. The Chair will lead the Board of Trustees in ensuring Tree Aid’s vision of resilient communities and thriving ecosystems across Africa. 9 RESPONSIBILITIES • The management and development of the Board, including its relationship with senior leadership • Guiding the Board and CEO in shaping the strategic priorities of Tree Aid • Leading the selection process & coaching and appraisal of the Chief Executive • Representing Tree Aid with donors, partners, and other key stakeholders (in collaboration with the CEO) • Along with the sub -committee chairs, ensuring good governance and financial management of the charity. 10 PERSONAL SPECIFICATION • Strong alignment with the mission and values of Tree Aid • Experience of working at a senior level in an organization, possibly chairing a Board, committee or other such body. • Experience of providing strategic leadership in an organization • Evidence of strong interpersonal skills, such as building teams, conflict resolution & coaching. ▪ Relevant sector experience likely in an international context ▪ Skilled in charity governance and the ability to understand UK charity governance requirements. ▪ Capable of handling sensitive issues involving risks to the reputation as well as the long -term sustainability of the organisation. ▪ A commitment to the work of Tree Aid and the time to carry out the role (approximately 3 days per month). 11 HOW TO APPLY Application is made using a CV and a cover letter.
