JOB DESCRIPTION

Location Chesterfield Employer The Elm Foundation Reports To Changes Service Manager Hours 14 hours per week.

On evening group work days, you will be expected to work from 1 PM – 8:30 PM.

On non-group work days, your working hours will be 9:30 AM – 5 PM.

The Behavioural Change Practitioner may be expected to work some Saturdays and evenings, as required to meet the needs of the service.

Purpose of the role

To deliver structured group and one-to-one interventions for individuals who have used abusive behavior in their intimate relationships. The role focuses on supporting participants to take responsibility for their actions, develop respectful relationship skills, and reduce the risk of harm to current or future partners and children.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Deliver group work sessions based on accredited perpetrator programmes (Respect-accredited models).
  • Facilitate sessions that challenge harmful beliefs and behaviors while promoting empathy, accountability, and non-violence.
  • Manage group dynamics, ensuring a safe and respectful environment.
  • Work alongside dedicated Partner Support Workers to ensure the safety of survivors and their children is at the heart of the intervention.
  • Conduct risk assessments and individual sessions where appropriate.
  • Maintain regular case notes and records of attendance and progress.
  • Support participants with setting goals and action plans for behavior change.
  • Complete eligibility and suitability assessments for potential clients.
  • To engage with case management and supervision (both one to one and group) to assess progress and implement agreed actions to promote positive change and the safety of all involved.
  • To assist in the promotion of the service including: delivery of or attendance at presentations, workshops, meetings conferences as required.
  • To attend practice and clinical supervision.
  • Work closely with partner agencies, including victim support services, social care, probation, and police.
  • Contribute to safeguarding processes by sharing relevant information appropriately.Attend case review meetings and provide professional updates.
  • Complete session reports, monitoring forms, and evaluation tools in line with programme standards.
  • Contribute to service development through feedback and reflective practice.

General Duties and Responsibilities

  • To take part in supervision, appraisals and development opportunities as required.
  • To work as part of a team within The Elm Foundation and to feedback relevant information.
  • To maintain full and accurate case records and monitoring systems as required.
  • To comply with The Elm Foundations financial regulations and other organizational policies and procedures.

Person Specification:

Essential:

  • Experience of group facilitation, ideally with vulnerable or complex clients.
  • Knowledge of domestic abuse dynamics, including coercive control and trauma-informed practice.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to challenge harmful behaviour in a non-confrontational, supportive way.
  • Commitment to equality, diversity, and safeguarding principles.

Desirable:

  • Experience working in a domestic abuse, criminal justice, or mental health setting.
  • Familiarity with risk assessment tools (e.g., DASH, SARA).
  • Qualification in social work, psychology, counselling, or related field.
  • Accredited perpetrator programme facilitation training (e.g., Respect-accredited).

Additional Information:

  • Evening work is typically required to facilitate group sessions.
  • This role is subject to enhanced DBS (Disclosure and Barring Service) checks.
  • Ongoing training and supervision will be provided.

The post holder will be expected at all times to respect the confidentiality of individual service users, whilst adhering to Child and Adult Protection policies and procedures including the MARAC information sharing protocol. They will also be expected to keep the whereabout of refuge service confidential.
