Details

Our baristas play a vital role in making The Hive Café a welcoming, high-quality destination at the heart of campus life. As a key point of contact for students and staff, you will help create a positive and inclusive environment that reflects the values of Roehampton Students’ Union. Day-to-day, this involves serving customers, preparing hot and cold drinks to a high standard, processing payments, maintaining cleanliness, and contributing to the smooth commercial operation of the café. The role is central to the financial sustainability of the Students’ Union, and the quality of the experience you deliver directly supports our ability to invest in student life.

To help make this job description as clear as possible, we’ve included some examples of the type of work/jobs you’ll be asked to do on a regular basis as part of this role:

  • Customer Service: Welcome customers, take orders, and deliver a friendly, attentive experience that reflects the character and values of The Hive. Describe menu items, make recommendations, communicate our sustainability ethos, and contribute to the overall atmosphere that makes the café a special place on campus.
  • Payments and Orders: Receive and accurately process customer payments, and communicate orders clearly and efficiently to co-workers to ensure smooth service.
  • Drinks and Food Preparation: Prepare and serve hot and cold drinks to a high standard, assist in the preparation and serving of our food menu, and display and serve cakes and pastries.
  • Cleaning and Hygiene: Clean and sanitise work areas, utensils, and kitchen equipment, and maintain clean service and seating areas throughout the day to uphold the highest standards of food hygiene.
  • Stock Management: Assist with receiving and distributing stock supplies, helping to ensure the café is always well-stocked and ready to serve.

General Responsibilities

  • Comply with relevant equality and diversity policies, promoting a healthy working environment where all individuals are valued.
  • Comply with relevant health and safety policies, seeking to minimise hazards for others.
  • Support the development and implementation of sustainability initiatives within the organisation.
  • Comply with relevant data protection policies, ensuring the Data Protection Act 2018 is considered when making plans and decisions.
  • Establish and maintain excellent working relationships with students, volunteers, staff and individuals outside of the Students’ Union (for example the University).
  • Comply with the Students’ Union’s articles of association and other governing documents, recognising and celebrating the contribution of members to leading our work.
  • Work as part of a wider team, undertaking any other reasonable duties appropriate for the grade that may be required by the organisation.
