About the Role

We are looking for Domestic Assistants to join the team of bank domestics in maintaining a safe, healthy and clean environment in the homely surroundings of Strathcarron Hospice.

Shifts will be offered on an ‘as and when required’ basis to cover various shift patterns between Monday to Sunday. We require applicants to be flexible in the days and hours they can work.

What We’re Looking For

You should have excellent team working skills, and a working knowledge of food hygiene, infection control and safe moving and handling.

Duties will include carrying out daily, weekly and periodic cleaning duties and will involve providing a meal and beverage service to patients.

Previous domestic experience is preferred. Training and supervision will be an integral part of the post holder’s development.

The post is subject to a check by the Protecting Vulnerable Group Scheme.

All new employees will be subject to a probationary period of 6 months, during which performance and suitability for the role will be assessed.

Job Title: Bank Domestic Assistant

Department: All Areas

2. JOB PURPOSE

As part of the Domestic team the job holder has responsibility to support the Domestic Supervisor in providing a safe, clean and pleasant environment for patients, visitors and staff within the hospice. Also responsible for ensuring that all patients have the best possible dining experience during their time at Strathcarron.

3. DIMENSIONS

To clean all clinical and non-clinical areas.

To serve food and beverages to approximately 24 in-patients

□ To set up for functions on a daily basis where food/beverage is provided for hospice visitors/students.

4. ROLE OF DEPARTMENT/ORGANISATIONAL POSITION

ROLE OF DEPARTMENT -

To clean all areas to pre-defined standards in accordance with hospice policies and procedures.

Reducing the risk of health care acquired infection

To provide prepared food to patients in accordance with legislative guidelines.

ORGANISATIONAL POSITION

5. KEY DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES

Ensure adequate supplies available to carry out job

Communicate directly with patients and families

Liaise with nursing staff about patients’ feeding needs

Ensure compliance to appropriate regulations and good practice in the preparation and presentation of food.

Maintain cleanliness in the kitchen area

Adopt best hygiene practice and document all necessary recordings in keeping with hospice guidelines

Use all equipment safely and responsibly, reporting faults promptly when they occur

Work effectively with volunteers

Report accidents in accordance with hospice procedures

Report own illness in accordance with hospice procedure

Work in accordance with moving and handling guidance

Frequent exposure to highly unpleasant working conditions cleaning toilets and exposure to body fluids.

Provide and receive information regarding deliveries/orders

Communicate with relatives/visitors re emotional and sensitive issues, which requires discretion and understanding

Physical demands – Frequent use of scrubbing machines. Manual dexterity when using kitchen equipment Transport of hot/cold foods for short distances Standing for long periods Hanging curtains

Mental demands – Frequent spells of concentration for Serving patients meals/refreshments to patients with frequently changing needs Predictable work with varying degrees of pressure/urgency.

12. KNOWLEDGE, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED TO DO THE JOB

Introduction to Food Hygiene Course (REHIS)

Knowledge of safe working procedures, practices and equipment use

Working knowledge of Infection control, Moving & Handling guidance and COSHH

Salary Scale: £13.15p per hour.

Hours: As and when required.

Duration: Permanent.

Pension: This post is superannuable under The Falkirk Council Local Government Superannuation Scheme and your remuneration will be subject to deduction unless you choose to opt out of the scheme.
