Welcome to a role where food means so much more. At Compton Care, every dish is made with compassion, thoughtfulness and real purpose — whether it’s a comforting meal for a patient, a fresh lunch for a visitor, or something special served in one of our much-loved cafés. We’re looking for a talented Chef / Cook to join our kitchen team and help us create food that is nourishing, meaningful and memorable. Better still, you’ll be joining an award-winning hospitality team, with Crumbles Coffee House recently named Café/Coffee Shop of the Year at the West Midlands Tourism Awards 2026.
Starters – A little taste of the role
- You’ll prepare, cook and present high-quality meals with care, consistency and flair.
- You’ll play an important part in delivering food that supports comfort, dignity and wellbeing.
- You’ll work across a varied catering environment, from patient meals to customer-facing café service and special events.
- You’ll be part of a team that takes pride in every detail — because here, food really matters.
Mains – What you’ll be serving up
- Preparing, cooking and presenting a wide range of hot and cold meals to a high standard.
- Following standardised recipes, portion controls and quality checks to keep every plate consistent and delicious.
- Supporting menu planning and recipe development, including seasonal ideas and customer favourites.
- Overseeing plating and service to make sure meals are accurate, appealing and delivered on time.
- Training, guiding and mentoring junior team members while building a positive, supportive kitchen culture.
Sides – The extras that make all the difference
- Keeping the kitchen clean, safe and organised at all times, with excellent food hygiene and safety standards.
- Supporting stock control, ordering and waste reduction so ingredients are fresh, well-managed and used efficiently.
- Working closely with suppliers, ward teams and colleagues across the organisation to ensure a smooth and responsive service.
- Helping with cash handling, menu cost awareness, and the development of new food ideas and seasonal updates.
Desserts – The kind of person we’re looking for
- A skilled cook who cares about quality, flavour and presentation.
- Someone calm, organised and dependable in a busy kitchen.
- A team player who can lead by example and bring others with them.
- A person who understands that in a hospice setting, food is never ‘just food’ — it is comfort, connection and care.
- Someone committed to high standards, inclusivity, continuous learning and doing things the right way.
The Bill – Why join us?
If you’re ready to bring your culinary skills to a role with real heart, we’d love to hear from you. This is your chance to join a team that combines professional pride with genuine purpose — creating great food for people who truly value it, in an organisation where every decision is made with care. So, if you can handle the heat, bring the flavour and serve up kindness by the plateful, your place at the table could be waiting.
