The Royal Shakespeare Company is looking to appoint an Automation Assistant for its production of My Neighbour Totoro at the Gillian Lynne Theatre, London
This position is offered as a fixed term contract, commencing on 2 February 2026.
As Automation Assistant, you will play crucial role in supporting the smooth and safe running of My Neighbour Totoro, assisting with the operation and maintenance of the show's automation systems to the highest standard. You will respond promptly to any technical issues, contribute to the delivery of rehearsals and performances, and provide support during publicity and access events. This is a hands-on position within a technically ambitious production, requiring a proactive, collaborative and solutions-focused approach.
It is essential that you have the following skills and experience:
- Experience as a member of an automation team on a large-scale live theatre production with multiple automated scenic elements.
- Experience in the regular maintenance and repair of automation systems
- Practical understanding of theatre staging, stage engineering, rigging, slinging, and flying.
