The Role:
As an Assistant Store Leader at Traid, you will play a key role in supporting the Store Leader to deliver a high-performing, purpose-driven store. By leading from the shop floor and supporting day-to-day operations, you will help bring Traid’s mission to life through exceptional customer experiences, strong commercial results and a positive, inclusive team culture.
You will take shared responsibility for store performance, standards and compliance, stepping confidently into leadership when required. Through coaching, role modelling and hands-on support, you will help develop a diverse team of staff and volunteers, ensuring they feel confident, valued and connected to Traid’s purpose.
You will act as an ambassador for sustainable fashion and community impact, supporting donation generation, maintaining strong shop floor standards and building meaningful relationships with customers, donors and colleagues. In everything you do, you will lead with kindness, integrity and accountability, helping to create a store environment where people and purpose come first.
Key Accountabilities:
● Support the Store Leader in delivering strong commercial performance across sales, donations, Gift Aid and cost control
● Lead day-to-day store operations in the absence of the Store Leader, ensuring smooth, safe and efficient trading
● Drive high standards of shop floor presentation, replenishment and visual merchandising
● Deliver excellent customer service by leading from the floor and coaching in the moment
● Support the recruitment, training and development of volunteers and paid staff
● Act as a positive role model, reinforcing Traid’s values, behaviours and ways of working
● Assist with rota planning, cash handling, tills and store administration to ensure accuracy and compliance
● Promote a strong donation culture and support community engagement initiatives
● Help maintain compliance with health & safety, safeguarding and data protection procedures
● Communicate effectively with the Store Leader and wider teams to support business priorities
● Take ownership of specific operational areas or projects as delegated by the Store Leader.
Commercial & Operational Support:
Commercial & Operational Support
● Support the Store Leader in delivering KPIs including sales, conversion, donation volumes, Gift Aid and cost control
● Lead day-to-day store operations, ensuring the store is safe, organised and trading efficiently
● Support effective stock flow from donation intake to shop floor replenishment
● Maintain high standards of till accuracy, cash handling and store administration
● Assist with planning and prioritisation to ensure smooth daily operations
● Step into full store responsibility in the absence of the Store Leader
● Ensure back of house and stock areas are well organised and compliant.
People Leadership & Volunteer Support:
● Support and motivate a diverse team of paid staff and volunteers
● Lead by example on the shop floor, modelling excellent service and behaviours
● Coach in the moment to reinforce standards, confidence and capability
● Support volunteer recruitment, onboarding and training
● Build positive relationships where people feel supported, recognised and included
● Assist with performance conversations, feedback and development discussions
● Handle sensitive situations professionally, escalating where appropriate
● Champion Traid’s values and ways of working at all times.
Customer Experience & Brand Standards:
● Deliver a warm, welcoming and inclusive customer experience
● Support engaging second-hand fashion experiences through strong presentation and storytelling
● Maintain high standards of cleanliness, layout, replenishment and visual merchandising
● Ensure the store reflects Traid’s mission, values and sustainable fashion identity
● Encourage customer engagement with Traid’s cause and impact
● Promote and support a strong donation culture in-store.
Community & Stakeholder Engagement:
● Support the Store Leader in building relationships with local donors and community partners
● Engage positively with customers, supporters and volunteers to encourage repeat visits and donations
● Communicate clearly with the Store Leader, Area Management and support teams
● Support wider charity initiatives, campaigns and promotions
● Represent Traid positively within the local community.
