Permanent - 21 hours per week, Sunday to Saturday.

£24,700 per annum / £14,018.92 pro rata

Location: Shaw Store

Reporting to: Shop Manager

 Job purpose:      

  • Assist the Shop Manager in maximising sales and to run the shop in the absence of the Shop Manager.
  • Assisting with recruitment, training, leading and empowering a volunteer team to achieve shop income & expenditure budgets to generate maximum profits through the effective management of the shop.

 Key activities:  

  • To assist the Shop Manager in the setting of sales, gift aid and expenditure targets and ensure plans are in place to achieve them. To cover the shop in the absence of the manager.
  • To assist in the management of stock from processing through to presentation ensuring the shop operates to Retail agreed standards.
  • To assist in the recruitment and retention of shop volunteers to ensure shop can open the agreed hours and operate to agreed standards.
  • To assist in the training and development of volunteers in all aspects of Retail. This could include working, training and managing volunteers under the age of 16.
  • To ensure that all shop online admin is completed to deadlines required and in line with Retail policies and procedures as requested by the Shop Manager.
  • To ensure Health & Safety policies are applied and adhered to in the absence of the Shop Manager.
  • To assist in the planning and implementation of internal and external sales promotion as requested by the Shop Manager.
  • To deal with messages and enquiries and to manage customer complaints in the absence of the Shop Manager.
  • To attend face to face or virtual training courses and meetings as required.
  • In the absence of the Shop Manager ensure daily banking is actioned.
  • To promote the work of The Children’s Society.
  • Any other duties as requested by line management including possible cover of shops within the region.

In order to be considered for this post you will have to demonstrate that you already have the following skills / knowledge / Experience.

  • Good communication and interpersonal skills (essential)
  • Ability to supervise a team of volunteers (essential)
  • Computer illiterate (essential)
  • GCSE English and maths or equivalent (essential)
  • Basic understanding of the retail environment and of working with volunteers (essential)
  • Cash handling (desirable)
  • Customer service (essential)

Special job circumstances: This post has the following special circumstances:

  • Overnight stays or national travel may be required at times in order to attend meetings or training sessions
  • Flexibility to cover the managers day off and holidays
  • You may on occasions be required to work at other shop locations as requested by line management
  • Standing for long periods, lifting and carrying
