Assistant Shop Managerto support the successful running of our SVP charity shop.About the RoleAs Assistant Shop Manager, you’ll work closely with the Shop Manager to maximise sales, deliver exceptional service, and ensure the shop operates smoothly and safely. You’ll play a key part in maintaining high standards, supporting volunteers, and creating a welcoming environment for customers and donors.
You will also take responsibility for the day‑to‑day running of the shop when the Shop Manager is absent, helping to uphold our “Sales through Service” culture and reflecting the values and ethos of the St Vincent de Paul Society.
Key Responsibilities- Support the Shop Manager to achieve income targets through shop sales, Gift Aid, donations, recycling and ethical selling routes.
- Help to drive Gift Aid uptake and ensure consistent donor engagement.
- Maintain strong stock levels by encouraging high‑quality local donations and ensuring effective rotation.
- Support with online selling activities, identifying suitable items and overseeing processing and dispatch.
- Contribute to building and retaining a loyal customer base – increasing buying, donating and volunteering activity.
- Assist in recruiting, training and motivating a team of volunteers.
- Deliver first‑class customer service and maintain a clean, organised shop environment at all times.
- Uphold all cash handling, finance, H&S, and compliance procedures.
- Support shop social media activity in line with SVP guidelines.
- Act as a key holder and provide cover for Shop Manager holidays where possible.
We’re looking for someone who is:
- Experienced in retail, with a proven ability to work to and achieve targets.
- A strong communicator with excellent customer service skills.
- Proactive, organised, and able to use initiative to drive income generation.
- Confident working with IT systems and retail cash/EPOS systems.
- Passionate about charity retail and aligned with the values of the SVP.
- Skilled at working with and supporting volunteers in a collaborative, positive environment.
- Charity retail experience
- Knowledge of the SVP
- Visual merchandising or advanced retail skills
