Job Description

Post Title:Assistant Ranger
Grade:D3 (£27,694) to E4 (£29,782)
Location:Bradgate Park, Newtown Linford, Leicester LE6 0HE
Hours:40 hours per week (including weekend working on a rota)
Responsible to:Senior Ranger & Head Ranger
Annual Leave:24 days per annum (rising to 29 days after 5 years' service)excluding bank holidays
Please note that this role includes a requirement to live on site at the Lodge in the centre of thepark and take part in an on-cal rota. A Service Occupancy agreement is linked to the contract ofemployment and a licence fee charged to the employee. This is based on 50% of the market rentand is currently circa £700 per month.
MAIN DUTIES
Training:
1.To ensure every opportunity is taken to engage with the learning process. To expandexperience and knowledge of ranger activities.
2.To undertake any training and mentoring offered to gain experience where possible.
3. Maintain accurate record of learning and training programmes and certificates
Estate Maintenance and Conservation:
1.To assist the Rangers to maintain a high standard of service and ensure that own tasks arecarried out effectively, safely and in a timely fashion.
2.Carry out a wide range of estate maintenance tasks including mowing, strimming, coppicing,hedge cutting and laying, dry stone walling, fencing and bracken control.
3.Use of machinery, tools and equipment, according to qualifications and experience. Seekhelp, advice and expertise from rangers and senior rangers where appropriate.
Vehicles, tools, equipment and place of work
1.Ensure that all vehicles, tools and equipment are maintained appropriately, accounted forand put away at the end of each shift and that all breakages and deficiencies are reportedand actioned appropriately.
2.Ensure a clean, safe and tidy environment is maintained specifically within the Estateworkshop but also during all ongoing works undertaken in the park
Visitor Management:
1.Provide information to visitors and respond to queries, deal with behaviour that is anti-socialor contrary to the Park Byelaws.
2.At busy times assist car park or café staff as required
3.Provide assistance to the Emergency Services if required.
Health and Safety at Work:
1.Ensure that all work is carried out in accordance with the Trust's policies and legislativerequirements in relation to Health and Safety.
2. Ensure that you adhere to safe working practices and follow the correct procedures for thecare and maintenance of any equipment for which you are responsible.
3.To ensure safe working of volunteers. To volunteer groups working with are appropriatelytrained in the safe use of all equipment as well as the safe training and maintenance ofequipment.
Compliance:
1.To ensure all work and practices are carried out to comply with relevant legislation and localpolicies and procedures.
Joint Working
1.To carry out tasks as requested by Senior Rangers to support the provision of volunteeropportunities and work closely with the Volunteer Administrator
2.To share knowledge and experience with volunteers and maintain friendly and professionalrelationships with volunteers
