Assistant Gardener
Wadham College, one of the largest Oxford colleges, is looking for a permanent, part-time (26 hours per week) Assistance Gardener to join the team.
Wadham College’s extensive gardens provide a wonderful environment for Fellows and students as well as visitors. We are looking for an Assistant Gardener to support the gardening team in ensuring that Wadham’s gardens continue to be maintained to a high standard. The role holder will also spend time tending to the grounds at our Iffley Road site. Training and development opportunities are available.
Salary: £26,707 to £30,378 per annum (discretionary to £33,002), depending on skills and experience (University Grade 4), calculated pro rata for part time.
In addition, Wadham College also pays full-time staff a further £1,730 Oxford Weighting per annum (taxable and pensionable). That would also be pro-rated for this position.

Tasks include: weeding, trimming, transplanting, propagating, watering, pruning, planting, shovelling, leaf clearing and the use of mowers. We are looking for someone who has a passion for plants.
Experience is valued. It is relevant to have a good knowledge of plants, pruning, lawns and pest and disease identification. We are looking for someone honest, hardworking and trustworthy. Friendly and polite, to work in a small team within the College.
The role involves some working at height and in all types of weather. It is based predominantly at our main site on Parks Road but will also spend a smaller amount of time at our Iffley Road site too.
We would value some form of relevant formal qualification such as RHS, PA1/PA6 (or equivalent) although this is not essential.
The working hours are part time, 26 hours a week, flexibility over which days in the week are worked with occasional weekend watering work, as required.
