Working hours:  21 hours per week (days can be flexible, but must include Wednesday, with occasional Saturday morning cover)

Sally in the Stow’, Walthamstow Salvation Army’s local charity shop, exists to support our mission to be an expression of God’s love within the local community. As well as raising much needed funds, the shop directly channels donated goods to hundreds of vulnerable families and individuals each year, provides clothing and furniture at affordable prices, supports the circular economy and is a doorway through which people can engage with our wider activities. We are looking for an enthusiastic and creative person to support our manager in fulfilling this mission.

Key Responsibilities:

The successful applicant will support our manager in all aspects of shop operations with the opportunity to both build on strengths and develop weaknesses.

Successful candidate will have: 

  • A willingness to work within, and be an enthusiastic advocate of, our Christian ethos and values in the community
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills, a strong sense of empathy and compassion, and the ability to develop positive relationships with colleagues and all who visit the charity shop
  • Experience of successfully achieving sales and delivering excellent customer service in a retail environment
  • An understanding of a Charity Shop being more than just a shop.
  • Ability to use electronic point of sales equipment and software such as email, word processing and spreadsheets
  • Experience of, or the willingness to learn, selling via eBay
