Assessment Board Members Advert

Help discern the future ministers and Church Related Community Workers of the United Reformed Church

The United Reformed Church believes that God continues to call people into ministries of Word, Sacraments and Church Related Community Work. Discernment of those called to these ministries is one of the most significant responsibilities entrusted to the Church. The Assessment Board is seeking new members to join its work of discerning vocation, assessing candidates for ministry and supporting the formation of those preparing for accredited ministry in the United Reformed Church.

The Assessment Board plays a vital role in the candidating and formation processes of the Church. Through Assessment Conferences, the Assessment Board seeks to ensure that those entering accredited ministry are equipped, formed and called for service in Christ's Church.

We are looking for people who:

• have a mature Christian faith and active involvement in the life of the Church;

• are committed to the ethos, polity and mission of the United Reformed Church;

• are able to listen carefully, discern prayerfully and make balanced judgements;

can work collaboratively and respectfully with people from a wide range of backgrounds;

• are willing to undertake assessor training and ongoing development.

Experience in ministry, theological education, vocational discernment, human resources, safeguarding, education, pastoral care or governance may be helpful, but the most important qualities are wisdom, integrity, discernment and a commitment to the flourishing of the Church's ministries.

Members are expected to attend:

• Assessment Conferences (normally March and November);

the Assessment Board Annual Meeting (September);

annual assessor training and development events;

occasional online meetings as required.

The Assessment Board reports through the Ministries Committee and operates under the oversight of the Deputy General Secretary (Ministries).

Serving on the Assessment Board offers an opportunity to contribute directly to the future ministry and mission of the United Reformed Church and to participate in one of the Church's most significant acts of communal discernment.
