Best wishes, Andrew Gordon-Brown An Independent Co-educational Boarding and Day School for pupils aged nine months to 18 years Job Description Job Title: Apprentice Science Technician (Chemistry) Responsible To: Head of Chemistry (daily reporting to Senior Chemistry Technician) Department: Chemistry / Science Date of Issue: March 2026 About the role As an apprentice science technician you will provide a full range of technical assistance to the teaching staff within the relevant science department. Key responsibilities Preparing, distributing and disposal of laboratory practicals, materials and associated tasks • Preparing apparatus, materials, solutions and other laboratory supplies and arranging for use by pupils and staff • Delivering apparatus, materials and solutions to the teaching laboratories • Setting up demonstration apparatus as required by staff • Checking materials and equipment in and out • Cleaning, sorting and storing apparatus and materials after use • Helping to maintain safe storage of chemicals/biological materials and apparatus • Helping to dispose of laboratory materials/chemicals/biological waste in accordance with established policies and guidelines • Using and supporting a system for teachers to order the equipment and chemicals for their practical lessons • Arranging iPads for the Science Department to be available in rooms ready for lessons • Helping with new experiments as directed. Supporting and maintaining compliant health and safety working practices • Safe handling of all equipment, including some hazardous chemicals, in accordance with CLEAPPS and departmental recommendations and practices • Testing / developing basic practical activities and demonstrations as directed that are compliant with CLEAPSS procedures or otherwise fully risk assessed and approved by the head of department. • Checking with CLEAPPS for updates to safety information • Carrying out first line maintenance on equipment • Maintaining laboratories in a clean, tidy and safe condition (including maintaining supplies of first aid and safety equipment) in conjunction with teaching and cleaning staff. Your normal hours of work will be 37 hours a week, throughout the year, from 08:30 to 16:30, Monday to Thursday and from 08:30 to 16:00 on Friday, with 30 minutes unpaid lunch breaks. A competitive apprenticeship salary is offered, in the region of £12,500 per annum (actual), depending on qualifications, skills and experience.
