Salary £25,900 per annum plus additional benefits
We are looking to recruit an Apprentice Gardener to join our experienced team in the historic setting of Trinity College. We are the largest of the 31 Cambridge Colleges, located in the centre of Cambridge, with a site extending approximately one mile from Sydney Street across The Backs to Grange Road, over 36 acres.
The successful candidate will work alongside a friendly, energetic and passionate team of 12 Gardeners, plus an Apprentice Gardener, with the Head Gardener, Deputy Head Gardener and three Senior Gardeners overseeing the daily running of the department.
The role will assist the team in maintaining a wide range of gardens and landscapes from formal fine lawns to herbaceous borders, woodland areas to riverside parkland and wall shrubs and climbers to nursery work. The post holder will work with the experienced team to develop their professional horticultural skills, uniquely centred around College Gardens, which are required to ensure that the maintenance of all garden areas is carried out to the highest possible standards.
If you have real interest in gardening and horticulture and a willingness to learn, we would like to hear from you. You should have some basic experience of gardening and using some gardening tools. You should be happy to work as part of our team and also independently. The successful candidate must have an energy and interest for working outdoors and in all weathers.
This post will form part of a 18-month, intercollegiate apprenticeship scheme. The appointed apprentice will work towards obtaining a Horticulture/Landscape Operative Level 2 Standard and will join apprentices from a small number of other colleges.
