We are recruiting an enthusiastic Engineering Panel Wireman Apprentice to join our shop-floor production team. This apprenticeship combines practical, hands-on experience with structured training and further education to equip you with the core skills needed for a career in panel wiring and electrical assembly.

As an apprentice, you’ll work at a company and get hands-on experience. You’ll gain new skills and work alongside experienced staff.

About the Apprenticeship

We are recruiting an enthusiastic Engineering Panel Wireman Apprentice to join our shop-floor production team. This apprenticeship combines practical, hands-on experience with structured training and further education to equip you with the core skills needed for a career in panel wiring and electrical assembly.

You will work alongside experienced panel wiremen and engineers, learning how to accurately and efficiently build and wire control panels, read engineering drawings, and understand the fundamentals of electrical assemblies. You’ll develop both technical and soft skills, including communication and teamwork.

On successful completion of your apprenticeship, you will be well-placed to begin your career as a qualified member of Labtec’s production and engineering team.

Key Responsibilities

Throughout your apprenticeship you will learn to:

• Assemble and wire electrical control panels and enclosures to engineering drawings and specifications.
• Prepare, crimp, terminate, and loom wires neatly and accurately.
• Fit electrical components including switches, relays, connectors, terminals and harnesses.
• Read and interpret schematic diagrams, bills of materials, and wiring layouts.
• Work safely and professionally in a busy shop-floor environment.
• Take part in quality checks and testing procedures to ensure finished panels meet specification.

• GCSE English Language or English Literature (Grade 4 or above) essential
• GCSE Maths (Grade 4 or above) essential

By the end of this apprenticeship you will have:

• Strong practical experience wiring and assembling electrical panels.
• A recognised apprenticeship qualification in engineering / electrical panel wiring.
• Valuable workplace and soft skills that make you a strong candidate for a full-time role within Labtec’s engineering team.

Labtec are aware of their responsibilities in this area, all efforts are made to ensure that the components used in panel construction are compatible with the EMC Directives. All of our control panels are manufactured within their limitations and a Technical Construction Files is produced for each project to ensure compatibility and trace ability.

Drawing and Design Services

In addition to the preparation of Wiring and layout drawings for products in manufacture, Labtec are able to offer a design / drafting service based on AutoCAD (Release 13 or Release 14). This can be tailored to accommodate differences in presentation.

PLC Programming

Labtec can provide design and programming of any type of PLC based process from single pump control, to complete systems for sewage works. This is backed up by a comprehensive documentation service.
