Position – Biology and Environmental Systems and Societies Teacher (Full-Time)

The school is looking to appoint a specialist and experienced Biology teacher who is passionate about their students, their subject and developing their pedagogical craft. The successful candidate will also be expected to teach Environmental Systems and Societies (ESS) and should be able to demonstrate an interest in, and understanding of, interdisciplinary environmental education. The Science department at Waterford Kamhlaba UWCSA offers Biology at IGCSE and IBDP level, and follows the Cambridge Lower Secondary Curriculum in the Lower School. We offer IBDP ESS at Higher Level and Standard Level. At Waterford Kamhlaba, we deliberatelysupport students who join us from a range of backgrounds and educational systems. The teachers within the Science Department come from diverse backgrounds themselves, and are highly experienced subject specialists who bring passion and energy to our classrooms. We are looking for someone to join this team who possesses the ability to work under pressure, who has the flexibility and willingness to try out new things and someone who enjoys working in teams.

Qualifications

  • A Bachelor’s Degree in Biology
  • Professional teaching qualification e.g. PGCE
  • At least 3 years teaching IBDP Biology and/or A-Level Biology
  • Experience teaching ESS would be an added advantage

Responsibilities

  • Teach IGCSE and IBDP Biology and Environmental Systems and Societies
  • Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people at the College
  • Work with colleagues in the Science Department to continually improve and align pedagogical approaches
  • Contribute to student growth outside the classroom by supervising a community service activity, club and/or an extra-curricular activity
  • Serve as Tutor to 12 students
