Position – English Literature Teacher (Full-time)
The school is looking to appoint a passionate and enthusiastic full-time English Literature teacher. The role commences on 01 September 2026 or 01 January 2027. The English department at Waterford Kamhlaba UWCSA offers the Cambridge Lower Secondary Curriculum in the Lower Phase of the school to prepare our students to study English Language and Literature at IGCSE and IBDP level. The conceptual nature of all our curricula requires students to focus on ideas that translate across the world, and seeks to inspire, empower and foster a spirit of intellectual curiosity in our students. We deliberately support students who join us from a range of backgrounds and education systems.
The teachers within this department bring passion and energy to our classrooms, and are highly experienced subject specialists. They ensure learning happens in innovative and exploratory ways and encourage our students to use their voices to lead. We are looking for a candidate with excellent interpersonal skills, high emotional intelligence, and someone who enjoys working in teams. The ability to work under pressure is also a key character trait required by those who work in this department.
- Teach English Language/Literature to high achieving students, aged 12-20, from across the world
- Ability and willingness to teach across the three Phases of the school: Lower Forms, IGCSE and IBDP
- Work with colleagues in the department to plan units and lesson, and to continually improve and align
pedagogical approaches - Timeously generate and submit mid cycle indicators, report comments and grades; and utilise platforms
in the school to share feedback with students, parents and other stakeholders on student performance - Contribute to student growth outside the classroom by supervising a community service activity, club
and/or an extra-curricular activity - Serve as tutor to 12 students
- Perform residential duties
- Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people at the College
Qualifications and Experience
- A Bachelor’s degree in English Literature or equivalent
- A postgraduate degree would be an added advantage
- A minimum of 3 years teaching experience at IB Diploma or A’ Level
- Professional teaching qualification e.g. PGCE
- Passion for student-centered teaching and learning and the ability to develop meaningful relationships
with young people
