Position – Geography or History Teacher
The school is looking to appoint either a Geography or a History teacher, with the openness and ability to teach other subjects such as Global Perspectives, a research based Cambridge course that we offer at IGCSE. We are looking for a teacher. with a deep understanding of their subject and a holistic approach to learning. The ideal candidate will be an enthusiastic educator with a commitment to nurturing students' understanding of their discipline and be adept at supporting students to carry out research and project based learning, all the while engaging with the systems and policies that govern our world. The role commences on the 1st September 2026 or 1st January 2027.
The primary role of the Geography or History Teacher will be to provide an holistic approach to learning for students in the Lower School, the IGCSE and IBDP phases of the school. The teacher will also be expected to teach IGCSE Global Perspectives. This role demands a commitment to excellence in teaching and a deep understanding of their primary discipline, research methods and supporting students to stay on track with portfolio based work. Teachers of this subject are expected to foster a classroom environment that encourages critical thinking, problem-solving, and independent learning, and incorporate real-world, contextually relevant case studies into teaching and learning, in order to enhance practical understanding and relevance for our students. Our Humanities teachers also prepare students for IBDP Internal Assessments and Extended Essays, and ensure adherence to examination standards and deadlines.
Qualifications
- A BSc or BA in Geography, BA in History, or a related field
- At least 3 years experience delivering IBDP or A Level History, Geography, ESS or related courses would be
an advantage - A strong understanding of the IB and IGCSE philosophies and assessment methods.
- Experience and a willingness to teach IGCSE or A’Level Global Perspectives would be a distinct advantage
- Ability to teach IBDP Global Politics would be an advantage
- An Honours or Masters’ Degree would be an advantage
- Professional teaching qualification e.g. PGCE
- Passion for student-centered teaching and learning and the ability to develop meaningful relationships with young people
Responsibilities
- Teach Geography or History, and Global Perspectives to a diverse range of students from across the world
- Work with colleagues in the department to continually improve and align pedagogical approaches
- Develop and update curricular resources and assessment
- Contribute to student growth outside the classroom by supervising a community service activity, club and/or a co-curricular activity
- Serve as a tutor to 12 students
- Perform residential duties
- Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people at the College
