Overview The Advocacy Assistant provides essential coordination, drafting, and administrative support to IAPB’s Policy and Advocacy team, contributing directly to the delivery of IAPB’s global advocacy and policy agenda. The role supports the preparation of advocacy and policy materials, coordinates meetings and activities across priority workstreams, and helps ensure that policy and advocacy priorities are communicated clearly and consistently to members, partners, and external audiences. The Advocacy Assistant plays a key role in supporting advocacy campaigns, events, and global initiatives through strong organisation, accurate follow-up, and timely, high- quality written outputs aligned with IAPB’s strategic priorities. Scope & Accountability: Advocacy & Policy Coordination • Serve as a key coordination and drafting focal point within the Policy and Advocacy team, contributing to the preparation and delivery of advocacy and policy materials—including Global Summit–related content—and supporting alignment of milestones, announcements, and events with agreed advocacy plans. • Provide hands-on coordination and operational support for Policy and Advocacy activities, including liaising with external stakeholders, supporting preparations for the Global Summit for Eye Health, coordinating meetings and briefings, and tracking actions and deliverables to ensure effective follow-up. Events, Campaigns & Advocacy Delivery • Support the organisation and logistics of advocacy events and activities, including briefings, workshops, side events, and visibility moments linked to IAPB’s advocacy priorities. • Assist with the preparation of advocacy and policy materials such as background notes, briefing packs, moderator notes, talking points, and event summaries. • Contribute to the coordination of global advocacy campaigns and key moments, ensuring activities reflect agreed Policy and Advocacy priorities and messages. Monitoring & Stakeholder Coordination • Monitor relevant policy, advocacy, and sector developments and support internal information-sharing, tracking, and reporting. • Support coordination with IAPB stakeholder groups and networks by assisting with meeting organisation, updates, and routine communications. Content & Digital Support • Support the development and updating of advocacy- and policy-related content for the IAPB website, including news, events, and resources. • Assist with drafting and preparing advocacy content for digital channels and sharing with the Communications team for amplification, as appropriate. • Help ensure accuracy and consistency of advocacy and policy messaging across materials and platforms. Education, Skills & Experience: Required: • Undergraduate degree in related field (International Affairs, Political Science, Public Health) • Excellent written communication skills, with the ability to produce clear, accurate content for newsletters, blogs, websites, and internal updates. • Good organisational and administrative skills, with attention to detail and ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines. • Ability to coordinate across teams and support collaborative ways of working. • Basic project coordination skills, particularly in relation to events, meetings, and communications outputs. • Comfortable working in a remote, multicultural, and globally distributed team environment. Desirable: • Graduate degree in relevant field of study (International Affairs, Political Science, Public Health etc.) • Familiarity with advocacy, campaigning, or policy environments (academic, civil society, or internship experience welcome). • Experience supporting communications, events, or stakeholder engagement activities. • Interest in global policy processes or the work of international organisations. • Strong interest in international development, global health, or multilateral affairs. • Positive, solution-oriented, and proactive team player.
