Vision and Purpose of Role
The Diocese of Clifton seeks to become ever more deeply a community of missionary disciples, rooted in prayer, formed by the Gospel, nourished by the Eucharist and committed to the service of others. Inspired by the vision of the Second Vatican Council, Evangelii Gaudium and the Church’s call to missionary renewal this role exists to support parish communities in growing in confidence, communion and evangelising mission.
This is a ministry role within the mission of the Church.
Key Accountabilities
Promoting an Understanding of the Baptismal Vocation of the laity
Develop and deliver accessible resources, workshops, and formation sessions that help the faithful understand their identity and mission as baptised disciples.
Provide practical guidance and formation for Synodal Parish Pastoral Councils and local leadership teams.
• Facilitate parish workshops, listening events and formation gatherings across the Diocese.
• Support the ongoing formation and encouragement of lay ministry leaders across the Diocese.
Support parish initiatives that encourage outreach, welcome and accompaniment, especially towards those who may feel distant from the life of the Church.
Worship of God
• Work with the liturgy team to provide ongoing formation for those involved in liturgical ministry.
Ensure that parish communities have appropriate materials, resources and formation for acts of worship led by lay people when a priest is unavailable.
• Encourage forms of prayer and formation that deepen Eucharistic faith and missionary renewal.
Handing on the Faith in its Fulness
Support Parishes with ongoing adult faith formation
• Provide relevant support and formation for Parish catechists.
• Work with volunteers to develop accompaniment and discipleship of young people
• Promote confidence in Catholic Identity and Teaching
• Encourage links between parish life, schools, chaplaincies and young adult communities.
The Ministry of Love
• Work collaboratively with Clifton Caritas to support parish outreach and social action initiatives.
Encourage parish communities to recognise service of the poor as an essential dimension of Christian discipleship and evangelisation.
Building Communion and Collaboration
• Support the implementation of diocesan pastoral priorities emerging from the synodal journey.
Facilitate opportunities for listening, dialogue and collaborative discernment at Parish and diocesan level.
• Foster positive relationships with ecumenical and community partners where appropriate
Work collaboratively with other diocesan departments and external partners in support of the wider mission of the Diocese.
Contribution to the Wider Mission of the Department
Contribute to the production of the Clifton Evangelist.
• Assist in the planning and delivery of diocesan conferences, formation days and mission events
Maintain appropriate records, contribute to reports and assist in evaluating the effectiveness of diocesan initiatives.
Undertake other duties reasonable requested in support of the mission of the Department and Diocese.
Working with the Diocesan Communication Officer
to support Diocesan communication and digital evangelisation work, including appropriate use of social media
to assist in developing accessible digital resources and online formation opportunities
to support the Diocese in communicating the Gospel effectively through contemporary digital platforms.
Knowledge, Skills and Experience
• Significant knowledge and understanding of the Catholic Faith and Church Documents
Demonstrable experience of working with Parishes to facilitate formation
Experience of engaging with the Synodal Journey at Parish and Diocesan level
• The ability to build and maintain relationships, listening to and learning from others
• The ability to empathise and possess a sensitivity when working with key contacts

• An ability to work with families, young people and with priests, deacons, and parishioners
• The person appointed will need to be willing to work flexibility including evenings and weekends.

Qualifications
Degree (or equivalent) in Theology or Pastoral Ministry
Baptised, practising Catholic who is actively involved in the life and mission of their parish community
Valid Driving licence and use of a car.
