Salary: £347.50 daily fee (including prep) – 25 teaching weeks in the academic year
Britten Pears Arts (BPA) is a pioneering Music & Arts based charity, situated on the beautiful Suffolk coast, working across a wide range of activities. Music-related charitable work includes Artist Development, a year-round Performance Programme, Music in the Community and Creative Health and our Living Heritage Museum and Archive at The Red House.
At Snape Maltings, our significant commercial activity includes Retail, Hospitality, Galleries and Property – including holiday lets and accommodation for visiting artists. All commercial profits are used to support the BPA charity. We employ more than 150 permanent colleagues, many of whom work flexibly, together with significant numbers of seasonal staff and freelancers.

The AYM programme is about growing musicianship through a creative, holistic approach. We are looking for innovative educators to help guide our talented young musicians to learn together through a range of creative ensemble tasks across a variety of styles.
Across the term, students will work in small and large groups on their aural skills, improvisation, theoretical understanding, composition and arranging, technique and performance.
Vacancies are now open for six tutors, each specialising in a different discipline: keyboard, woodwind, brass, percussion, strings and composition/arrangement.
This is a unique opportunity to help shape what will be a truly innovative programme that is rooted in the wide-ranging demands of today's music industry. We are at the beginning of this new journey for Advanced Young Musicians and in the first instance will tailor the Tutor vacancies based on student intake. We expect the cohort to expand as the new programme becomes more established. The role is based at Snape Maltings.
In particular we are looking for:
- An experienced music educator with a strong track record of working with advanced young musicians
- A creative and versatile musician with an active artistic or professional practice
- Experience coaching and directing both small and large ensembles
- The ability to teach and inspire across a range of musical styles and genres
- Strong improvisation skills and confidence in developing these skills in young people
- A deep understanding of musicianship, including aural skills, notation, composition and arranging
- A passion for motivating and nurturing young musicians in an inclusive, student-centred learning environment
- A collaborative, innovative approach and commitment to helping shape and develop an exciting new programme
